Laying in bed, I looked at Ivar's sleeping face as the morning light peeking in cast the room in a warm glow. I gently brushed my knuckles over his cheek while thinking about the Seer's words.
'A man of madness finds peace in your presence....'
Ivar was certainly that. His anger drove him to do things he regretted so deeply after, his intelligence was bordering madness, yet here he slept so soundly. Ivar's face looked so serene as if he had not a single thing to worry about.
I could only hope the Seer telling me that everything of me affecting Ivar was for the better. He was also right in saying how I feared for Ivar rather than being afraid of him. I loved this man so dearly- I didn't want to see any harm come to him.
I'd seen a kindness in him, a warmth, a broken heart. How he wept for Floki, how he was scared of being alone, even how he used other people's fear to protect himself. If people were too terrified to even look at him, how could they possibly know how much he craved to be close to others?
Not even Hvitserk had seen it, but he did now, though. He could spot how Ivar would push people away not out of hatred but because he didn't want to get hurt. Of course, Ivar would never tell his brother such things, I had to. I had to ask Hvitserk to really look at why Ivar kept questioning his loyalty and if he regretted jumping that boat.
Once he realized Ivar wasn't as fearless as he'd thought, the two seemed to manage to get closer. They argued less while still teasing one another, but it was progress toward a better relationship between the two. Hvitserk even came around to no longer thinking Ivar had Margarethe killed, leaving us to assume it had been King Harald.
Driving a wedge between the brothers who already had a strained relationship would make his claim to Kattegat all the easier to obtain. I wondered how he'd feel knowing the opposite had ended up happening.
However, Ivar still had a long way to go. He was still greatly distrusting, and the people were still wary of him. For a man so greatly feared, he himself was scared of so much. I could only pray things turned out for the best.
Stunning blue eyes slowly opened while looking right at me. A soft smile then pulled at Ivar's lips.
"Good morning."
"Good morning." He replied, reaching up to grab my hand touching his cheek before placing a soft kiss on my palm. "Should I worry how my Queen stares at me as I sleep?"
"Yes. I was debating smacking you because of how you snore." I popped off, and Ivar scoffed while still holding my hand.
"Be honest."
"....I was thinking about the Seer's words again."
"Do they truly bother you that much?"
"They make me concerned, yes."
"Is being born with divinity truly that devastating to you?"
"It's a lot to take in. And not only that but what I was told of you, Ivar."
"You worry too much. It wasn't as if you received bad news." He rolled his eyes before leaning forward to give me a kiss. "Aren't you happy to learn how the gods chose us for one another?"
"Don't get me wrong, I am." I sighed as Ivar brushed his finger over my knuckles. "I simply worry for what is to come."
"Have these thoughts kept you awake?"
