( I was going to only post this after I finished the chapter art but its been too long so ill just add it in later )
I opened my eyes, adjusting to the brightness of the room. Sitting up, I put my hand to my head and blinked a few times, looking around. Reaching over to the side of my bed, I turned off my alarm clock, which had woken me up with a loud ringing. Fully gaining my thoughts, I read the time which was shown. 6 AM.
I sighed and stretched my arms upwards, then yawning. I lifted the duvet off of me and got out of bed, standing up groggily. I trotted over the wardrobe and opened the wooden door, eyeing all of my clothes. Trying to decide what to wear, I picked out some random clothes and laid them out on the tidy end of the bed.
I organised the clothes into outfits, and I ended up with three choices. There was a light brown trenchcoat with a belt, with a black top and grey leggings for one. Then there was some blue jeans and a white top with red on the upper areas. It had a small W.O.M.P symbol on it. Option three was some beige cargo trousers (pants, for Americans), with a long-sleeved green top, which was cropped, and a pink short-sleeved hoodie, which was also cropped. It had some white lines dotted across it for patterns.
As I was never the best at making decisions, it took a while to decide, but I made up my mind. I went with the last choice, as it was the comfiest and I felt good in it, like I was ready for anything! Besides, it was also a classic. So, I slipped off my pyjamas and changed into my clothes, slipping the top over my head and shifting up the trousers. I found a spare belt and fastened it around my waist and pulled them up once more, smiling to myself. Then I went ahead and made my bed, throwing on a blanket or two for detail and fluffing my pillows.
I then left my room, shutting the door behind me. The softness of the carpet beneath my feet made me feel happy as I walked over to the room across the hall. I opened the door and walked into the bathroom. After closing the door behind me, I looked in the mirror above the sink and my eyes widened as I noticed the state was in.
I looked at the black faded lines under my eyes. I should probably get some more sleep tonight instead of staying up and designing gizmos. I pushed my hair out of my eyes and picked up a makeup brush and dabbed some things on my face. I was never one to use makeup, I didn't know the names of things either. I only used it every so often because uncle Gadget bought me a set for Christmas. Aside from that, I marvelled at the fact that my eyebags were pretty much hidden. I had also added a very faint blush.
Then I actually looked at my hair. It was a mess. I picked up a hairbrush and started doing my thing, brushing out the knots. I gritted my teeth every time it got stuck. Once done, I put it up in some pigtails with a red bobble and set the brush back. Then I cleaned my teeth.
Around ten minutes had passed and I decided to head downstairs. As I walked down the flight of stairs, my feet thumping against the soft outer layer, the wood beneath it creaking slightly, the sweet smell of pancakes wafted up my nose. I let out a happy sigh and stopped, lifting myself onto the bannister. I slid down effortlessly and quite fast, landing with a magnificent pose.
Brushing myself off, I looked to my left. Straight ahead, I could see my uncle in the kitchen. He was wearing a pink apron and dancing goofily along to the radio as he flipped some pancakes. I let out a small giggle. "Good morning uncle!" I chirped, "How are the pancakes?" I asked, wandering over and sitting on a stool in front of a counter, resting my arms on the countertop.
He turned over and looked at me with a smile, waving at me with his 'hat-hand'. "Good morning Penny, I hope you rested well! The pancakes should be done in a few, you can go play with the Privates while you wait, I'm sure they're looking forward to seeing you." He suggested, to which I nodded and stood up, heading to the living room, which was right next to the kitchen, opened up. I didn't notice the pancakes which he had stuck to the ceiling on my way there.
Once I had taken in my surroundings, I took notice of the Gadgetinis. Digit, the dark blue one, was sat on a colourful beanbag with flower patterns covering it. He was watching a superhero cartoon. It was paused though, which confused me a bit, so I decided to ask the young robot about it.
I tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey Digit," He turned to me and smiled. "What are you doing? The cartoon isn't even playing. Besides, I don't remember you watching stuff like this?" I questioned.
"Oh!" he mentally face-palmed. "Yesterday, Fidget and I made a bet-" He started. I obviously cut him off. "I thought I told you not to make bets." I scolded. He shrunk down a bit, but that was expected. I then motioned for him to carry on. "Well, the deal was that whoever was more sensible during the mission would get to choose what to watch the next day. Surprisingly, when he put his mind to it, he actually won," explained Digit, annoyed about the situation. I was also surprised. Fidget, sensible? That couldn't be right, but I guess it was.
"I'm just waiting for him to power on so I can unpause the cartoon and get it over with. He's taking a while though, annoyingly." He added on, pointing to the side of the room. There, sat on a chair, was Fidget. He was showing no emotion and his eyes were black, indicating he was powered off. For someone who would have never seen one of the two 'asleep', it would be quite disturbing, but I was used to it. What concerned me was the fact that he was still powered off. He would normally wake up at around half five or six in the morning, but it was now quarter to seven, and he still laid there. I was confused, so I decided to turn him on myself.
Clicking a hidden button of the orange Gadgetini's jacket, I stepped back and a few seconds later, his eyes lit up once more. He shook his head a few times and stretched, then looked up, making eye contact with me. "Morning, Penny." He said, tiredly. I looked at him strangely.
"Fidget, bud, you ok? You don't normally sleep in this late, are your gadgets working right?" I asked. He stared at me blankly for a moment, before a theoretical lightbulb appeared above his head.
"Probably, just tired. Last night my gadgets went berserk and it wouldn't allow me to power down." He shrugged. Oh right. Every so often uncle Gadget or the Gadgetinis need rebooting, otherwise their gadgets malfunction. It seems I had miscalculated and it was Fidget's turn.
"You probably just need rebooting" I shrugged, "We'll do it later today," I reassured him, placing my hand on his shoulder. He smiled at me in response and nodded his head.
Suddenly, we were cut off by a very familiar voice. "Breakfast's ready!" Uncle Gadget shouted from the kitchen. We all turned around, Digit included. Before Digit could even get off of the beanbag, Fidget's face suddenly lit up and he rushed over to the kitchen at the sight of pancakes. However, he went faster than he would have liked to, as his 'go go gadgetini' rocket skates activated. This sent him practically flying to the kitchen, and bumping into the lieutenant.
When Penny came in and took a seat, she saw what the aftermath was. Poor Gadget was sat on the floor leaning against a counter, Fidget in his lap. Both of their gadgets were randomly laid out, as the cartoon logic showed their eyes as swirls, to indicate they were dizzy from how clumsy they were.
Looking at it, it was quite cute seeing them like that. The two were very alike, goofy and loveable. Both were meant to be great agents, but not so much. Always ended up saving the day in some way though. I loved them both for it.
I laughed and shook my head. "Cmon, let's eat before the pancakes get cold." I chuckled, the two standing up and sitting down. I noticed Digit looking up at me with puppy eyes and I let out a happy sigh, letting into defeat almost immediately. "Alright, up you go!" I said, lifting him up and placing him on the stool next to me. He smiled, which filled me with happiness; he didn't often show affection, so it was very much worth it.
