By this point, I had been on my own for 2 years, desperate to find answers about what was happening. For all this time, I had never seen another human being - only Mortems wandering the streets.
Being all alone, constantly on guard, was terrifying. I wouldn't have made it if it wasn't for her. She was my only reason to carry on..
My heart pounded as the can rolled out into the street. After tucking my water bottle away, gripping firmly to the brick wall for comfort, I peered round the corner, still masked from view. A lone Mortem emerged from the alleyway where the can came rolling from.
It came stumbling into the street conspicuously, its skin was pale and rotten, its eyes demonic and diseased looking. I could smell the decay and rot as it rushed through my nostrils and down the back of my throat.
The ghastly creature was gnawing on entrails from what looked like a small animal. (What I only hoped was a small animal.) A sliver of fear ran down my spine, then suddenly the Mortem turned and looked directly at me. Its teeth chatted together and blood dripped down its mouth.
Its bone crunching feet started staggering over in my direction. What started out as a slow crawl soon turned into a sprint. My heart was thumping and my eyes were popping, I was spellbound and paralysed with fear as the Mortem drew closer...
