The wind flowed through my hair, and the peaceful music of the roller skating rink made this moment feel like it could last forever. Zadonis struggled to move with the same grace I did as I circled around the rink performing trick after trick. I didn't notice it, but my mother spilled her soda on the floor of the rink, causing me to slip. My beautiful dance across the rink stopped as I flew into Zadonis' arms.
"You need to be more careful dude, can't have you die on us this early." He chuckled
"Yeah, yeah, Zad. You don't get the right to be that cocky. You can barely skate." I retorted as he helped me regain my balance.
We heard my mother call us out of the rink. Zad put his loaner skates away as we left the building. Not too far away, I could see the hospital. My white prison kept me safe and somewhat healthy but unfortunately isolated. Zad was my only friend outside of my close family. I started to skate down the hill towards the hospital, with Zad running close behind me.
"Last one home gives all their cookies to the victor!" I shouted behind me.
I was about to skate up the entrance ramp to the hospital when I slipped and fell onto the grass surrounding it. Zad sat next to me and we watched as the lights of the city twinkle like the stars in the countryside.
A few hours later I was laying in bed when I felt a strange empty feeling in my stomach like I hadn't eaten at all. Suddenly, I felt darkness claw at me, dragging me away into a void of nihility. I thought I was dead.
A loud ringing shocked me back to consciousness. I didn't know where I was, but saw a large heap of phones next to me. One was ringing, with a weird and creepy ringtone. I picked it up and saw the phone number was 216-911-1313. I didn't even answer it before something or someone started speaking.
"I'm here to call about your car's- damn... wrong dude. I mean, HELLO MORTAL! I am god and I'm here to give you a second chance. Why you might ask? Well, it appears you're not really on my list, so, I kind of have to add you or let you go. It appears you're not fit to be on my list so I have no choice than to give you a second chance. Please understand the abilities in the menus are based on the magical energy your soul left after dying. Please press "#" to continue on this automated line."
"Automated!?" I said as I suddenly didn't understand what I was saying, probably some divine language. I pressed # and a menu popped up like a character creator in some random video game.
"This... seems simple enough." I said, still not understanding what I was truly saying.
I tried to make my character big and strong like I wanted to be when I was alive, and slid the bar to almost max power. I wasn't able to make myself buff at all. It was like the program glitched, and my character became frailer. I checked through the various menus until I discovered a trait selector. I had one point for a trait, and picked the hidden 'LEADER' trait, which had some good perks. I then picked my race after looking through them. I picked Zeckon, a strange race with amazing buffs. Once I finished the phone glowed a bright white before exploding blinding me.
I woke up submerged in a black liquid. I could vaguely see shapes moving around. I suddenly felt drowsy and fell asleep. I awoke again an indeterminable amount of time later. Suddenly I heard the sound of a liquid draining away as the liquid in my tank drained out of holes in the bottom. I stepped out of the tank. The air of the laboratory was cold causing me to shiver due to my lack of clothes. As I turned, I saw a note on a table that I read out loud only because I wanted to hear the voice of my new body. Suddenly, I could understand what I was saying and I wasn't speaking a weird language anymore.
"If you're reading this, that means that you TEST SUBJECT 176 have awoken successfully. You must proceed down the hall and to the left and go into the room marked 'LOUNGE'. Oh, and unless Dono remembers to put clothing in there, you're probably naked right now. I'll include a note here on how to make clothing." I looked at the other side of the note and continued reading, "Simply think of the clothing you want to wear while exerting a small amount of magical force and the clothes will appear. Try using one of these pictures as a base".
