She was already 20 years old and her grandmother wanted her to get married at once. It was about time she got married and had children. Besides, a marriage between her and another foreign prince would be good for her country — creating bonds of alliance, and perhaps once and for all she would forget about her ex-lover from when she was a teenager, the son of the royal family doctor.

"I don't want, grandmother" she said, gathered in her office.

"Honey, whether you get married or not, you will never see Eren again. Do it for your family and for your country"

"Family that will be away from me by having to live in the country of my future husband and a country that I will probably never set foot in again" she said.

"Don't look at it that way, and think of the good this marriage will do. You must look to the future and not to the past. Look, I have a photo of him" she said, looking in a drawer of her desk for the photo, offering it to her. Mikasa took it and looked at it for a moment. Thanks to photos, she didn't have to know her fiancé's face with a retouched portrait. It wasn't ugly, but it wasn't her type. She handed the photo back to her grandmother. "I will not discuss this further. Also, I have a lot of things to do, so if we're done talking, which I think we are..."

Mikasa sighed angrily and left the office of her grandmother, Queen Kiyomi Azumbabito of the Hizuru Kingdom.

They would travel in a month to the kingdom of her fiancé. The trip went well, but traveling by ship for weeks seemed overwhelming as well as very boring, but she took advantage of that moment to spend it with his family before saying goodbye to them and not seeing them until God knows when.

The new country in which she would live seemed beautiful, luckily. It was very different from her native country, and the clothes of the people also caught her attention. The facial features also seemed interesting to hef, although they were not the first foreigners she had seen. The palace also seemed beautiful and quite tall, since in her country the royal palaces, instead of being tall, were wide in area.

They arrived and were greeted and welcomed by the King and Queen Consort. Then they settled in with the help of servants. The first meeting between the betrothed would take place that night, at dinner and a ball with the court and the royal family, obviously.

Mikasa was groomed according to the fashion of the palace court. She admitted that she didn't find the fashion there unpleasant and wanted to see how it looked on her, but she didn't want to stop wearing the kimonos of her country. They combed her hair and braided it, then tied it into a flat bun at the back of her head, and put on underwear, a corset, a petticoat, and a pink dress.

The time came and she was nervous. She didn't want the moment to come, even though she knew it was her duty. The wedding would take place in 3 days.

They made eye contact and greeted each other in front of everyone. They had dinner sitting next to each other and hardly spoke. After dinner, it was time to dance. They didn't want to but they had to.

All eyes fell on them. Jean offered his hand to Mikasa and she accepted it, putting the other on his shoulder and he putting the other on her waist, moving closer to each other.

"At least you could hide that you don't like me" Jean whispered as they danced.

"I'm going to have to marry you and have sex to have your heir in 3 days, at least let me pout this expression while I dance with you" she whispered.

"We haven't even gotten married yet and we already get along as if we've been married for 50 years"

"Don't even remind me"

The night dragged on and it was time to rest, but she couldn't get everything that was going on out of her head. She needed to get some air, so she slipped out of the palace to stroll through the garden.

The garden was huge and beautiful, and she ended up in an area with loads of roses in loads of different colors, sitting on a bench looking around at the starry sky and the full moon. She wanted to disconnect but she couldn't even if she tried hard. She ended up collapsing, crying with her face on her knees and hugging her legs.

"Are you okay?" said the voice of a young man next to her with concern, and to her misfortune, it was a familiar voice. She looked up. "Oh, it's you... What are you doing here and dressed like that?" He said referring to her nightgown. "Are you okay? Something happened to you?"

"No, I'm fine, I just wanted to go out and be alone for a while..." she said rubbing her eyes and cheeks.

"I understand..." he said. "The same happens to me. ...Do you want to talk about it?" He asked nervously, not knowing what to do.

"You can sit down if you want, the bench isn't mine" he said as if she could see the man's inner indecision about sitting next to her or not, but in the end he did. "It's just that I don't want to marry ...you"

"Yeah, I know..."

"Don't take it personally"

"Don't worry"

"Besides... Getting away from my country and my family... And I don't know if I'm going to fit in here"

"Yes, it sounds very difficult, and I'm sorry it has to be that way for you... But about that last one quote, I'll try to help you fit in and get along with my court acquaintances, and you can always count on me for whatever you need, I'll give it to you. I promise"

"Maybe he's not as bad husband as I imagined" Mikasa thought.
