Narrator POV :
Over the course of five hours, the mysterious group of people stood outside a glass window watching the young teen go in and out of consciousness.
There were many moments were the team thought this kid wouldn't survive after everything they went through...
But that teen really proved that they were strong, they had the potential...
The potential to become one of them.
.....
A certain red head seemed most interested in the teen, not for any ill intentions but mostly concern and an emotion that the woman could not describe herself until later on.
Having done the job of picking up the teen herself, she was shocked at how light that kid was, but even more the way they were smiling.... even as they were on their death bed.
"She has not moved or even blinked once... anyone wanna bet how long she will stand like that for-"
A man whispered excitedly even as their was so much surrounding sad energy, his mischievous behaviour and mind made the others lessen even the slightest, and relax.
"Shut up. This is serious Tony, there could be a dead teen here and you are worried about betting money? How low of a person can you be?"
That was a hard blow...
Not knowing how to react to that, the man named Tony simply walked out, back to his comfort of the lab. Following him was two others, a short, scruff looking man who looked way too out of his comfort zone, and a small teenager who looked eager to please.
"Nat, now that was a little out of line.. I know you are worried but can you please not vent out your anger on others?"
Walking towards the red head named Nat, a tall, muscular man with blond hair commented.
Sighing to herself, Nat slid down onto the floor.
"I...know.. it was wrong of me to lash out at Tony, but you guys did not see or felt what I did.... that kid is way too light for their own good, as well as the fact that they were smiling.... They were smiling Steve as they were on the verge of death..."
Nat wrapped her arms around herself, as a younger girl with auburn hair walked over with a warm blanket.
"Here Nat.... Cap.. I will stay with Nat, you go with the rest of the team and maybe try and get in touch with Fury.."
The blond man chuckled, whispering out a simple "Aye aye captain" and walked off with the rest of the team, leaving the two women to huddle together.
....
Another twenty minutes may have passed before a man in scrubs walked out.
The two women jumped up, grabbing each other in both fear and anticipation.
"Do not worry, the kid is a fighter, they are out of danger. They will soon wake up, it's better for someone to be there for them when they do."
As soon as he said that, he turned away walking back into the room.
"See! I knew everything would be alright, I had this good feeling! I told you!"
The auburn hair girl giggled out, pulling Nat up and pushing her into the room to see the teen.
"Okay- okay.. Yes you were right Wanda, now stop pushing m-"
Laughing Nat jokingly spoke before coming to a sudden stop when she felt eyes on her.
"W....wh..who a-are y...you?"
The young teen shivered as they pulled the sheets closer to them.
....
..... POV :
Warm...
Why is it so warm.... and soft....?
I feel like I'm floating..
I want to see what's going on..
....
Narrator POV :
The young teen blinked open their eyes to the sound of a door opening.
It was bright, and very white.
Everything was clean, no dirty cement and definitely no scary people.
A very happy sound bubbled up and the teen slowly turned their head to stare at two girls, one with red and the other with auburn hair.
Narrowing their eyes, the teen prepared their fists, ready to fight.
"Okay- okay.. Yes you were right Wanda, now stop pushing m-"
The red head spoke but stopped as if she knew the teen was staring at her.
Deciding the best course of action would be to calmly speak to the strangers, the teen stuttered out...
"W....wh..who a-are y...you?"
A soft smile from the red head and the teen was utterly calm, they felt this sense of longing and connection at once.
Something surely was good about this person...right?
"Hey there, I'm Natasha, but you can call me Nat"
Standing next to the door but not moving closer, the red head spoke softly towards the teen.
"And I'm Wanda, I'm Nat's friend and we are here to take care of you. We saved you from that mean and scary place."
Nodding slowly... before finally registering what was being said to them.
The teen looked down and their feet, as they softly smiled.
Seeing that little smile, brought bright smiles on both Wanda and Natasha's faces.
"Well than now that we have told you our names what is yours?"
Wanda spoke hesitantly, giving the teen some time to answer or not.
"My name is subject 13."
The teen smiled at them, but that smile faded when they noticed that the women were not smiling back, but instead were looking at them with a sort of sadness.
"That is not a name sweetheart.. how about this... your eyes are a beautiful Dusk hue... why don't we call you Dusk?"
The red head pondered for a bit before speaking directly to the teen.
Having never been called anything else other than Subject 13, it was a bit odd, but its felt nice.... the teen smiled again and nodded their head excitedly.
"Mhmm I like the name Dusk!"
Both the women smiled at the teen before slowly moving closer and sitting next to them.
They spent the rest of the afternoon talking not about the past but rather what made the teen happy, what brought a smile on their face.
That day Natasha vowed to always make sure a smile was always present on Dusk's face.
........
