RUFUS
I cough as it feels i've sunk underwater. My eyes are glued shut and when reality comes back to me my body calms but my brain spins even more thinking about him. Mateo. My love. My life. In the last 24 hours i've fell for the most beautiful boy i've ever laid my eyes on. When I stop daydreaming, I realize my eyes are still shut and the air near me feels cool. I open my eyes to a bright room and squint and the light. I lift my head and see endless walls of white. A black door in the distance. I stand up in a panic and scream Mateos name but receive nothing in return. Im wearing the same clothes I wore in the flames of red and orange. The black smoke and the black burned face of the boy I love flashes to my mind and I shake my head in attempt to erase the thought. I take off my jacket and hold it to my face. The smell of warm cool forests and chlorine enter my system. The smell of Mateo. The name of that boy travels across my mind as I finally start to walk towards the door like shape. When I get close it has a gold doorknob and the words "American Pie" carved on the wood of the door. I hold my breath as I open the door and see a flashing of purple lights and the song American Pie by Don Mclean enters my ears. I look around to see two boys on a stage with microphones signing the song together. The shine in one boys eyes looks so familiar but in these conditions I can barely tell where I even am. The time at the club with Mateo flashes back to me. Less than 6 hours ago we were on stage singing these exact words. Our hands locked as we saw the Plutos and Lidia in the audience. I remember the boy that pulled me off stage to finally press his lips against mine. Being around him felt like home. I continue to walk to the next door with a golden doorknob. Determined to find the boy I love.
