The blinding light of the bathroom brightened the whole bedroom. He knew that he shouldn't keep the door open showcasing the lights into the face of a sleeping Sophie on their bed. He knew it would probably wake her up. But he couldn't handle being in the dark again. Being alone again.

Keefe looked into the mirror and saw a messy boy staring back. They had dark circles under their eyes and their face was stained with tears from the recent nightmare. His hair was at its lowest point after him screaming into his pillow for all of an hour. Both his hands were on the counter, his form rigid and shaking.

The steady beat of his tears hitting the bathroom tiles didn't help his downward spiral. He only looked up when he heard the sound of whimpering from their bedroom. He turned around and headed in that direction.

All of his pain and his problems vanished in thin air when he found Sophie crying softly into a pillow. Keefe could handle his own agony. He has been for many years, but Sophie suffering? He would kill whoever hurt her.

Before Keefe knew he was sitting on the bed with Sophie in his arms. His view was tangled blonde hair and all he could hear were a few stray hiccups.

"And then they were everywhere. Grady and Edaline were nowhere to be seen... And you, you were just lying there." Sophie was saying in between hiccups before bursting out in tears again. She fell into Keefe and nuzzled her head into her neck. He embraced her like an addict would drugs.

After another half hour, Keefe thought she had fallen asleep and was about to put her to bed when she sniffed and looked up at him. Her expression changed from tired to concerned in a millisecond. 

She brought her hand to cup his cheek and he leaned into it and put his hand on top of hers. God, what did they do to this boy? Sophie had thought. He looked at her like a starved man would but to touch.

Shit

Had she noticed his puffy red eyes? He didn't like burdening Sophie with his stupid problems.

Sophie wiped away a stray tear from his face that he hadn't known slipped out.

"It's nothing." Keefe said, looking away, but Sophie pulled his face toward her.

"What did I say about lying?" Sophie said, completely serious. Keefe couldn't help but let out a little snort at the face she was making.

"That you should lie." Keefe said with a smile that was too sweet and too pure. Sophie could imagine the wars that would happen to fight for that smile. She kissed each side of his face and fell back into the bed.

Keefe laid next to her and said the words he kept reminding her whenever he could.

"I love you more-"

"-then the earth itself." She finished for him. It was a sentence that was true to both of them and would be till the end of time.
