Luke

Another great concert for the Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour. The lads and I had a lot of fun, and I gotta say, Texas probably has had one of the loudest crowds. Now that the show was well over, the guys and I were just chilling out in our hotel rooms.

"Oi, is anybody hungry? I'm kind of craving some Texas barbecue." Michael said from inside the bathroom, and from what I could tell, he was admiring his red hair which he had re-dyed earlier this week. I was sprawled out on the couches with Ashton and Calum as he flipped through the channels before settling on some movie.

"I can go get some if you guys want?" I spoke up.

"No, Luke. What you want is to just drive around the rental car." Ashton chirped as he flipped his hair.

"Maybe..." I said as I got up and swiftly sprinted to the door and grabbed the keys. "I'll be back soon with some nice barbecue!" I hollered back as I slammed the door shut and rode the elevator down to the bottom floor. Before the elevator doors opened, I made sure to put my hood up and headed straight for the back door to avoid the fans out front.

I slipped into the rental and buckled up, soon making the engine roar with life. I grinned as I sat back and pulled out of the hotel car park. As I zipped down the roads, heading who knows where, I thought about how much fun the guys and I have been having on tour. Our next show is in Michigan in about a week or so, so we were planning on going to New York for the few days we have off. Our flights actually leave tomorrow night.

I refocused my attention on the road, glancing at the stores and food places every now and then knowing that there should be a barbecue place somewhere around here. Some radio station was playing and on came Amnesia. I laughed a little and hummed a long as I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel.

What came next was something that I had never expected. A girl ran out onto the road in front of me without any warning. I only caught a glimpse of tears rolling down her face. She was too close and I was driving too fast, I tried to stop so that I wouldn't hit her, but under the circumstances it would have had to have been a miracle.

My eyes shut upon impact and the car lurched to a hasty stop. I opened my eyes and with shaky hands, I got out of the car and moved to the front.

The girl who had run onto the street was now laying lifelessly on the floor, her hair covering her eyes. I panicked and immediately bent down and picked her up a little. Her eyes were screwed shut, her mouth slightly open. I sighed a breath of relief once I noticed the rise and fall of her chest. Her lip was busted and I was scared to know of any other injuries.

I quickly pulled my phone out of my pants and called an ambulance, dropping my phone once or twice from how shaky they were. Within minutes, the ambulance had arrived and the mystery girl was strapped to a gurney and hauled into the ambulance. I had explained the situation to the policemen and EMTs before we sped off to the hospital. I say we because I followed the ambulance, refusing to simply leave after I had hit this girl.

The rest of the night from the moment we arrived at the hospital was spent with multiple doctors asking me what was wrong followed by numerous amounts of tests done on the girl to check for any damages that may have been done. I had texted the lads at some point to tell them I was at the hospital but not to worry. From what the doctors had concluded, she broke a rib, got 3 stitches on her right forearm as well as a minor fracture, and was going to be wearing a splint on her left ankle. They also found that she had a concussion, and that she was very likely to have amnesia.

--

I must have fallen asleep at some point because now I was slumped in an uncomfortable hospital chair by a bed. The girl whom I had hit was asleep on the bed, her brown curly hair was spread out amongst the pillow, and as I studied her face, I couldn't help but to notice how soft and gentle her features were. Her bottom lip was busted and she had a purple bruise on her cheek as well as a cannula to help her breath.

The steady beeping of the heart monitor lulled me into a trance which was broken by a soft moan. The girl moved her hand a little then moaned again. Her eyes fluttered open, closed, then opened once more. She looked around the room, probably trying to figure out where she was before her eyes locked on mine. They were such a deep, soft green with small flecks of brown.

"W-where am I?" She said, her voice raspy probably from dehydration.

"You're in the hospital." I spoke softly as I got up to retrieve a bottle of water for her.

"Why?" When I was about to answer her, a doctor walked into the room a long with the clipboard.

"Hi sweety. I see you're awake. You were in an accident last night." She was a bit of an older lady, but nonetheless she had a caring air about he. "Do you remember anything?" The girl shook her head no.

"Do you know how old you are?" She shook her head. "What about where you live?" No once again. "Do you know your name?"

This time she didn't shake her head no right away. She turned her head a little before closing her eyes as though deep in thought.

"...Belle..." She paused before speaking again. "Belle seems familiar to me. It feels comforting." She opened her eyes again before looking down at her hands. The doctor looked to me before signaling for me to exit the room with her.

"Honestly there isn't much I can say. She had no form of identification and her phone was completely destroyed in the accident. All we can go off of is a feeling that her name is Belle." The old lady sighed before looking down at the board. "The hospital can't possibly afford to keep her here very long without knowing whether this girl has insurance or not. And we have no possible way of knowing if she has family whom we can contact. I don't know what we can do with her."

I looked into the room. Belle was staring down at her bandaged wrist then moved her attention to playing with the end of the blanket. If I would have been able to stop sooner, I wouldn't have hit her and she would be fine. She wouldn't have amnesia and she would probably just be at home sleeping or something. It's my fault and I'm responsible for what happened. So I need to take responsibility.

"I'll take care of her. I can take care of her until her memory comes back, whenever that may be. Please, let me." The doctor looked up at me with a kind, yet surprised face.

"Well then if you're really sure, we'll see how this young lady feels about it. If she's okay with it, then I can get the release forms prepared." With that, we walked back into the room to be greeted by a blank look from Belle.

"Alright, hun. If it's ok with you, this young man is going to take care of you until your memory returns. Alright?" Once the doctor finished speaking, Belle looked from her to me, glancing me up and down before looking back to the old woman.

"Ok."
