Chapter 6
"No, really. I can't go."
"Why not." Costanza said from behind me. She's shoving me out the door. She's strong for a small lady.
Costanza pretended that my outburst never happened. She's trying to be my friend and everything between us is okay. Luca on the other hand, is still giving me the cold shoulder.
"I have classes tomorrow. Early in the morning." I shivered when I stepped outside, feeling the cool air. I really wish I had a sweater with me.
"It's only 9:37. You can stay a little longer, can you? It will only be a couple of minutes and then you can go home." She smiled standing really close to me. As unnoticeable as I could, I took a small step to my right.
We heard a small crash coming from the inside of the restrautnt. "Porca troia!" Luca's voice sounded muffled from the where we're standing, but his voice was still loud enough to hear him.
We stood in silence. I stared at Costanza who is gazing up at the moonlight with a small grin. She started humming quietly. Should I just...yeah I should ask.
"Do you think.....we....um should check up on him? To see if he's- I don't know- alright?" I asked unsure. She snapped out of it and I noticed a small dimple on her left cheek. I wonder if Luciano has dimples.
"Oh, no. Don't worry about him. This happens all the time. Even if he is in trouble, he can handle it all by himself." She winked as if she was hinting something. Hinting that he knows what he's doing and could easily defend himself if he was in trouble.
"Ok." I whispered. I took another small step to my right.
I heard a door slam from behind us and heard low murmuring.
"Cazzo Madre di Dio."
Costanza looked at him knowingly. "Did you break another glass again?"
Luca was locking the door and he gruffled. "It slipped out of my hand."
She rolled her eyes. "You need to learn how to hold glasses with a tight grip. Or at least wipe your hands before holding it."
I wanted to say butterfingers. He has butterfingers.
Costanza laughed loudly in my ear and I noticed she's very close to me again. Very close.
"Butterfingers? I have butterfingers?" Luca raised an eyebrow, not amused.
Oh shit. I said it out loud.
My face turned hot and I rapidly shook my head. "No, I didn't mean to. I-it just slipped out. I'm s-sorry. Please don't-"
I stopped rambling when the corner of his twitched. He's grinning. He chuckled quietly and patted my shoulder. A little too hard because I took a few steps forward.
"No need to be scared. We are going to be family." He chuckled once again and moved towards his car, unlocking it.
Costanza tugged my arm and dragged me over to the car. I looked behind me and frowned. What about my poor baby?
"I can drive my car. I mean, I can't just let it stay there." I told Costanza and stopped walking.
"Leave it there! We'll bring you back to your car later. Also, I don't want you driving and then disappearing from us." She laughed softly but something tells me she wasn't joking about the last part. We both know I was going to do that.
She opened the back door and waited patiently for me to get in. Luca already started the door and is tapping his index finger on the steering wheel.
