Chapter 14 A Chance
A few weeks has gone by and I found myself walking out of a store. I just payed for rent using the money that I earned from my bank account and also transfered some amount to my uncle's for his allowance for the whole month. I let out a small contented sigh after stepping out of the store.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I fetch it from my pocket and answered the call with a smile on my face. "Andrei? Is my uncle on the phone?"
"You fucking bitch, I thought you went there to the city to study and work?!" My uncle angrily yelled through the other line of the call.
"That's . . That's right." I stuttered, because I was too surprised about his reaction.
"Do you think this amount of money is enough to buy myself my own needs? What happened to you? You were so nice and thoughtful before you abandoned me!" He madly shouted. I flinched a bit when I heard his reaction. This is not the reaction I expected from him after transferring some money to him.
"Uncle, I think that money is enough already. That's a huge money compared to the amount that I saved for myself!" I said, attempting to speak up for myself.
My uncle let out a scoff and I heard a fit of laughter from the background. I think he's drunk again with his friends. "I don't fucking believe you. Are you seeing a guy there instead of actually working? Shin (Y/N), I swear I'll go there and drag you back in here!"
I panicked and tried to calm myself down only to end up not knowing what to do. "I'm telling you the truth! That's all I got and what's left of me. I also need to use money for my own needs and other essentials. I'll make sure to provide you more amount if I get to find another job."
"You better be, huh." My uncle hissed. "Don't ever complain about being tired, because what you're doing right now is nothing compared to the things I've done in order for you to survive!"
"I know, uncle. I promise I'll do better." I said while biting my own lower lip because of the guilt that I'm starting to feel.
"Before I fucking forget, Andrei told me you acted like a bitch towards him. I'm warning you, kid. Know your place. Andrei's a great man. You already embarrassed me to him and his father when you rejected the marriage and ran away from here." My uncle said in a serious tone.
I went silent after hearing that. I don't know what to say nor react. One thing's for sure — I don't want this kind of treatment anymore. I'm not a little kid anymore. I'm already a grown-up who has her own thinking, feelings, and is already aware on how to survive and be independent. I think it's time for me to speak and stand up for myself now.
"Y-you don't have the right to pick who I'm going to end up with." I bravely spat.
Then, there was a few seconds of silence. I can imagine the look in my uncle's face right now. Suddenly, all of my bravery started melting down. I gulped and immediately take back what I have said.
