Roman was pissed when he slammed the doors to his parent's home, walking in to find Thomas and his mother in the kitchen.

"Where is she? I'm going to kill that brat! What does she think? That she can disrespect me like this, ignoring my messages, my calls and bringing a human into town, my town!?" His roars echoed across the house, but his mom didn't flinch, used to his temper.

On the other hand, Thomas cowered behind his mom's leg, whimpering. Roman's heart dropped at that, and he took a deep breath, crouching down to his level and giving him a haphazard smile, reassuring him everything was alright. He smiled back and poked Roman on the nose, making Roman chuckle. Only this kid can calm him down in seconds.

"Before you go upstairs all pissed off, just know that the human is also upstairs. I spoke to Olivia, and she promised that she would keep the girl close to her, and once the wedding was over, she would personally drop her off at the airport. It's the only friend she has had, Roman, for the past six years. She didn't feel right just ditching her." His mother tried to reason with him, reminding him why he came barging into the home in the first place.

"That's the price we pay when we leave the human world, Mom, to cut ties so that we can stay safe. And we both know Olivia won't always keep that human by her side with all the marriage planning and not having seen Adam in a year. Watch tomorrow, she'll be gone, and that girl will be all alone wandering, and what happens when she stumbles upon a shift, or someone opens their big mouth to her?" Roman was getting riled up once again. His mother held onto both his shoulders and made him look at her.

"Roman, I know you have the best intentions at heart. Just take a few minutes to think about this before you do something you regret, ok? For now, we will have to warn everyone in town to be careful of any interactions with Haisley and avoid any public shifting or superhuman abilities." Roman's heart stirred at the mention of the girl's name but pushed it aside as stress.

"Where's Olive?" His mom pointed upstairs. He nodded, thanking, and kissing her on the cheek and headed upstairs. He smelled something sweet, mangoes and coconut, an exotically alluring scent. It was in the direction of his bedroom, but first, he needed to deal with the brat. He barged into her bedroom, and she screeched.

"Roman, what the hell? Don't you knock? What if I was naked?" She yelled at him as she jumped up from the bed. He glared at her hard, and she visibly gulped but being the annoying little sister she was, she didn't give in.

"Why didn't you inform me about bringing your friend over? And why did you turn your phone off" He was up in Olivia's face now, and she just scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. She grew up with Roman and his crazy temper but knew he would never hurt her or lay a hand on any woman. Their parents raised them right.

"Look, I'm sorry, but my phone wouldn't stop going off, and I was tired, so I turned it off. I wanted to ask you, but I knew you would say no right off the bat. Haisley has been my best friend for the past six years, Roman; we've been through thick and thin, and she is the closest person I have to a sister. So please, let her stay. I promise to be careful and won't let her out of my sight." She pouted at him knowing he couldn't say no to her puppy dog eyes. She's been using that trick since it first worked on him when they were kids. Roman was only four years older, but he was always overprotective of her, having to take on the role of King after our father. He can be ruthless when needed but keeps it in line with his family.

"I've missed you, big brother." She gave him a huge bear hug, and he instantly hugged her back, kissing her on the top of her head.

"I've missed you too, brat." She rolled her eyes at the nickname he had given her since they were kids; she was always mischievous, getting into trouble, and Roman was always saving her.

"So, where's the human?" Olivia pursed her lips at the disrespect.

"Her name is Haisley, and she's in the room next to your old room." Roman stiffened, remembering the sweet scent from that direction when he came up earlier. It couldn't be.

"How old is your friend?" Olivia raised her eyebrow at the question but answered despite it.

"She's a year older than me, but her birthday is in a few months, so she's still 26." Roman nodded slightly at that as he stepped out of the room.

"I'll see you at dinner." He walked towards his bedroom and could hear the shower in the shared bathroom. He was itching to see her face.

Haisley. Why was her scent so intoxicating? Mangoes and coconut. The smell dominated his senses, and he was having trouble focusing. He needed to check to be sure himself. Without overthinking it, he barged into the unlocked bathroom.

Stupid girl. He muttered to himself as the intoxicating scent filled the whole bathroom. He knew what this meant. But it wasn't possible. Could it be?

Haisley screeched as she held the towel tighter around her, just stepping out of the shower, but she had accidentally grabbed one of the shorter towels in the closet. It barely covered her ass, and Haisley felt very vulnerable standing naked across the man who barged in rudely while she was in the shower. It clicked, then. It was Olivia's brother, one of her older brothers.

She stood there watching him; she felt too intimidated to even raise her voice at him. What is wrong with me? Do something, idiot. Don't just stand there. She looked at Roman and let out a scream, hoping Olivia would hear and come running to save her from her brute of a brother. But before the sound could even echo, he pressed her into the glass shower doors. A hand pressed firmly on her mouth. Strange sensations spread across her body, clouding her judgment as she stared at Roman with the same confused look in his eyes. However, unlike him, she recovered quickly, pushing him hard, almost losing her towel, and ran to the door that led to her room.

MATE! Roman's wolf growled in his head as Haisley slipped away from him. No, this can't be. She's human, and I'm the Alpha King. She can't be.
