Chapter 15
All-Nighter
The show had been absolutely incredible and I wasn't ashamed to admit that. When we'd gotten back to the hotel, it was all we talked about till we knocked out. The following morning, we were awake once again, but we'd gone straight into clean up mode. Our suite was...well...trashed. With our flight being later in the day, we took time to pack all our belongings and tidy up a bit.
For the last time, Nicolai ordered room service and also requested the local papers to be sent up with our breakfast. Sigmund had appeared on the covers of them all. We each grabbed a paper to look through and marveled at all the good reviews.
"He's really a celebrity..." Nicolai muttered, flipping the page of his paper in disbelief. "This is wild."
"This crying photo is hilarious!" Ivan chuckled, holding up his paper for us to see. Sure enough, there he was on the front page. Sigmund had cried at the very end of his show, something I hadn't expected to see from him, but I felt his emotion when it had happened. With the tour finally over, I could only imagine how freeing it must've felt to be able to breathe and relax again.
Just as we'd been talking about him, there was a knock at the door and upon me answering, Sigmund had appeared with a bright smile.
"Good morning!"
"Wow! You're awake?!" Ivan gasped. Sigmund shrugged as he entered the suite.
"My body is just used to being up at this time." He replied, leaning against the kitchen island. "Whatcha guys looking at?"
"Whatcha?" Ivan snickered. I'd caught that too. We laughed together, to Sigmund's displeasure. Clearly, he'd been in Erin's company recently. Nicolai dragged his suitcase from his room into the entranceway and held up the paper in his hands to Sigmund.
"You're on the cover of the New York Post! Look!"
"Ugh..." He groaned in irritation. He didn't look pleased with the front page at all. "This is the third paper to use a photo of me crying..."
"You shouldn't have cried!" Ivan teased. "Gotta keep the press in mind! They love that shit!"
"Noted..." Sigmund nodded, tossing the paper back to Nicolai.
With a bell boy arriving at the door, we quickly collected our suitcases and handed them over to be stacked on the trolley. Taking one last look around the suite for any belongings, we finally followed Sigmund out into the hallway and down to the elevator. With more than enough time before our flight, we'd agreed to take one last walk through Central Park.
"We saw a guy covered in pigeons the other day!" Ivan laughed, filling Sigmund in on what he'd missed.
"Oh yeah!" Nicolai laughed. "That was the weirdest thing I've ever seen!"
"Almost as weird as that bizarre man with the cowboy hat and guitar in Times Square." I mentioned. We instantly broke out in laughter about that one. Sigmund shot us confused looks. He had no clue what we were on about.
"You guys went without me?!" He frowned, crossing his arms in annoyance. I shrugged. It wasn't like he'd been around that evening! He'd gone off with Erin and hadn't returned!
"You had better things to do, didn't you?" I reminded him. "I wasn't gonna waste my free trip waiting for you."
"You know, I'm really growing to like you." Ivan smirked in my direction, elbowing me as I hit the down button at the elevator. I smiled back at him. Sigmund pouted.
