"This is extremely boring." Roman sat in my extra chair with his feet up on the corner of my desk. "This is why I hate offices I feel 50."
"Why don't you go hang out with Lucky. I'm sure he isn't doing anything either." Truthfully I needed Roman out of my hair if I was going to get any work done in time.
"Lucky and I have never been very successful in the hanging out department since we lived together. The most we'd do was sit on the carpet and smo-"
He stopped and smiled a bit, "we'd just sit together."I awkwardly nodded at the very conveniently timed cut off.
"Well you guys are adults now, who knows, you might have a lot more in common than you think." I picked up the phone and dialed the extension for Katz office knowing he'd just stepped into a meeting.
"Hello. He's in a meeting."
"are you trying to take my job?"Lucky chuckles softly, "Daisyyy, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"If you aren't busy you should come by my desk."
There was a moment of silence before the blinds of Katz office shifted a bit, revealing Lucky at the window with a grin and a phone to his ear.
"Say two if it's because you need me to take Roman off your hands."
"Two."Romans eyes shifted between the window and me, "What did he just ask you?"
I quickly hung up before Roman could take the phone. "Nothing, he's coming."
"You don't need to set up play dates for me."
"Because you have no problem setting them up yourself?"
Roman smirked and leaned in, "I don't think you're as funny as you think you are."
"And you aren't as intimidating as you might think."
"Roman." Lucky appeared with a laptop tucked under his arm and a bottle of champagne in the opposite hand, "I've got my dads gambling laptop, you wanna play poker?"
Roman stood up from his seat and buttoned his suit jacket. "We'll continue this conversation another time."
They walked off together like two highschool boys who are about to get into a lot of trouble.
"Do you think he has slots?"
"We can find out."I was finally able to have enough peace and quiet to get my work done. Who knew being in a rush made you get so much more productive. I sent out emails, faxed papers (after spending 15 minutes translating the manual), set up all of next weeks meetings, all under 3 cups of coffee.
By the time 12 rolled around I'd gotten days worth of work done and I'd realized I hadn't heard from Roman or Lucky since they left earlier.
I strolled over to Katz office, Katz sat alone at his desk on a very important phone conference.
Where could they have possibly gone?I kept aimlessly walking through the office space until I heard their familiar voices coming from the farthest back office where the broken copy machines lived.
I stopped at the doorway, neither of them taking notice.
"Lucky, that's enough you've got us down 100k. We've gotta quit now while we still have."
"Having fun?" I cleared my throat, gaining both of their attentions.
"No." Roman shut the laptop, "I don't even wanna talk about this, are you ready to go?"
"Yeah I've got all my things."
Lucky got up from the desk chair to say his goodbyes, a bit tipsy from the bottle of champagne he seemed to have downed. "I'll see you this weekend alright. Should I have a car pick you up? Actually it might be better if we arrived together, you've been in a limo before?"
