When I first opened my eyes, it was dark and it smelt addictive. The only people I really knew were my siblings who whined and whimpered when the shadow looked upon us. Each one, we were picked up like kittens and taken home. An home that was no better than the box that we came from. The air was dry and the bugs crawled along the Furniture. When we fell asleep that day, my ears twitched and my body shivered. It felt that the bugs crawled around us checking if we were alive or dead. I begged the shadow for help but the shadow only turned to me. It's breath smelt like strong beer and smoke. It's hand slapped onto me when I fell back with my body folding together. That's when I knew I had to survive with my mind and what was inside it. Everyday, I kept my family safe from the shadowy appearance, I would feed them, dress them and comfort them. Rarely, the figure would be in an jolly mood and careless our hair into it's. However, I never left my guard down and never will. One faithful night, my sibling sat beside me. "What's on the other side of the door?" We all turned to an door that never been open not even for an little bit. "Freedom" I whisper under my shaky gasp. I continued to stare at the door, the very door that the shadow keeps us away from. I could see light from below of the door and I could smell something warm like an hug was waiting behind it. I stare back to my siblings and realize that we need that hug. That night, we tip toed from the creaky planks and follow the light from under it. The shadowy appearance didn't seem to notice but only notice what was on the static television. We were almost there until one of younger siblings slipped on her feet causing the floorboard to screech and creak. The shadowy appearance turned to us as it's body gotten bigger and bigger so much that it made us feel like mice. We ran for freedom and the happy tears that would feel. However, the only happy tears that my siblings would feel when there wasn't enough time for me. When I opened the door, I pushed my siblings inside before the shadow would clutch its hands on me tightly. My siblings latched the door as I could feel the shadow pluck me from my collar and hold me high above from its mouth. My eyes would water from the hot steam of smoke that came through it as I was dropped inside the dark cave. My body dropped into an ocean of alcohol where the sky was only smoke and the land was seen was cigars. I climbed onto one, I sat there feeling the flesh and bones come close next to me. This was my home, this was my water, this was the air and this was my imprisonment
