As I enter the roller skating rink, loud music meets me at the open door, and the smell of popcorn fills my senses. A young guy, possibly a middle schooler, sits in a booth at the entrance, a smile on his face.
"Are you here for a party?" He asks.
I look around confused. "Uhm, I'm not sure... is there a party for Mike?" I replied. He glances down at the list in front of him for a second before looking back up. "Yeah," He smiles, looking down at the guest list. "What's your name?"
"Delilah."
"Yup, you're on here." He grabs a wristband from behind him and I stick my hand in the space between the glass. He wraps the band around my wrist and attaches it. "You can grab skates from over there," he points out, "Just show them your wrist."
"Thanks." I nod.
I open the other set of doors and fully enter the building, already regretting my decision.
I could be doing homework right now...
It seems as if the whole junior class is in this entirely too small space. I honestly didn't think Mike had this many friends. As I continue to look around, I spot Mike standing a few paces in front of me, a party hat on his head, and a smile on his lips.
I smiled back as I walk up to him. "I didn't think you'd come." He laughs. I only became slightly uncomfortable when he wrapped his arm around my waist. "I said I would." I reply, slipping out of his hold.
His arm drops and so does his smile, but he nods before speaking. "You look really pretty."
He eyes my figure, from head to toe, then back again. His gaze stops at my legs, as I stand in the skirt that I'm now starting to realize is way too short. I clear my throat, pulling the skirt down a little.
"Thanks," I mumble. "Uhm, you didn't tell me the whole school would be here too." I playfully roll my eyes as I look around. When my gaze returns back to him, I find myself more than relieved to see that his brilliant smile has returned.
It's so easy to please Mike.
"Sorry." He laughs.
"Happy birthday... I think." I giggle.
"Thank you."

In a more than embarrassing attempt at showing off, I'd fallen on my ass more than three times. I guess it's my fault. I haven't been roller skating in years, how could I possibly assume that I would still be good at it?
Lucky for me, there were so many other people falling that no one had noticed me.
Well, Mike did, but he seemed to find it adorable rather than humiliating. I'll have to do something about that soon. His 'puppy love' was starting to get just a little irritating.
I now sat down at one of the small tables next to the skating rink. Mike had suggested helping me out, but I refused. I'd gone through enough embarrassment for the day.
As I tried to pull those darn shoes off, I noticed him and quickly turn around.
Vincent.
Why is he here???
I quickly duck my head. He was heading towards me. Lauren had his attention, but I was sure that if he so much as looked up, he would see me. I pulled the other shoe off, and slipped out of my seat, quickly walking away from him.
I turned around for a quick second. He was still walking towards me, his arm around Lauren's waist.
Not dating? What a shitty lie.
