July 24th 1991

Charlotte woke up to the bright sun shining in her eyes. She sat up slowly and stared at her face in the vanity mirror, across from her bed. She hoped today would be good. It had been 7 months since her grandfather had passed, and it was slowly getting less painful. Not that his death didn't still hurt, but at least now she wasn't waking up each morning with tears in her eyes. She had been having a lot of good days and was truly hoping today was one of them.

So, she got out of bed, trying to keep her positive attitude, and started getting ready for the day. She brushed her hair and teeth before going to her dresser to decide on a clean, simple outfit. It consisted of a cozy white sweater with a minimal design, blue jeans, and her favorite shoes. Converse. If she could, she would wear them everyday, which she basically did. They were just so easy to style because of all the different colour options. That day's colour of choice was a light pink. After she finished putting on her outfit, she headed downstairs to be greeted by her parents.

"Good morning, darling," her mother sweetly said while finishing up her morning coffee. Her parents drank coffee every morning. She didn't how people could do such a thing. Coffee was the most rubbish drink in her opinion.

"Morning, Mum," she replied just as sweet. She then looked over at her father, noticing he was engrossed by the morning paper. She smiled at him.

"Morning, dad. Anything interesting in the paper?" She asked. He lowered the paper and looked surprised.

"Oh morning, honey! Didn't even realize you had woken up yet." He chuckled. "But no there isn't really anything worth seeing in the paper today. Just the lottery winners from yesterdays roll."

"Oh! Well that's still cool." She said. She sat at the dining table next to her father; meanwhile, her mother brought her a plate of breakfast. She immediately noticed the plate had her favorite. French toast. Normally she would only have this on a morning of special day, like her birthday, but today wasn't her birthday..."Wow! Thank you so much mum... but, what's the occasion?"

"Oh nothing, I just thought my wonderful daughter deserved her favorite breakfast on this fine Saturday," her mother smiled widely. Charlotte was a bit confused but was definitely not complaining. So, she dug in to enjoy her breakfast. Though, before she could even do that she was interrupted by her mother's voice, "Oh! And there's something in the mail for you today, Charlotte. Me and your father think you'll like it very much." She grinned from ear to ear and looked knowingly at her father who was sharing a smile just as wide. She loved seeing her parents this way, but now she was very confused.

She looked at the other side of the table and saw a clean, cream coloured paper with a red wax seal. Inside she assumed was a letter. She got up and went to take a better look at it. She immediately recognized it by the address of the letter and her heart stopped. She couldn't believe it. She absolutely could not believe it. It was the letter. It was the letter. The letter she had been anticipating for so long. The letter her grandfather and parents had talked to her forever about. It was finally here. She finally had it in her grasp. This is the only school she had ever wanted to go to and she was so ready. She quickly looked up at her parents for reassurance that this wasn't a dream and they nodded eagerly. So she ripped open the awaited letter to read what it said.

To: Mrs. Charlotte Whitlock
       32 Grandiose Drive

         Dear Mrs. Whitlock,

                   M. McGonagall
             Deputy Headmistress

She was so captivated by the letter she didn't even realize her parents were standing behind her, reading the letter as well. When she snapped out of her trance, she looked up, and realized her parents were no longer in front of her. She looked behind herself to see them smiling at the young witch. They looked so proud of her. She was already beaming, but the look on their faces made her smile even wider, if that was possible. In fact, her jaw began to hurt from all the smiling. She launched herself at them; she hugged them tighter than she ever had before.

"Is this a dream?" Charlotte asked. She really hoped it wasn't because this is something she had dreamed of for a long time.

"No darling, this is all real," her mother responded.

"Charlotte we are so proud of you... and your grandfather would be as well," her father stated. She smiled at that. Charlotte and her grandfather had talked about this moment for so long. It's the reason why she was so ready when it actually happened. She just wished he could have been there to experience it with her.

She started to think about all the memories she would make at the beloved school. She wondered if she would succeed at the school like the rest of her family. She wondered a lot of things, especially what house she would be sorted in. Wait. What house would she fit in?  She honestly had no clue. Her grandfather was a Ravenclaw. Her mother was a Hufflepuff and her father a Gryffindor. She was fine with anything, honestly. Except Slytherin. Anything but Slytherin. Her grandfather told her everything there was to know about Slytherin. And to be quite frank, nothing about it sounded appealing. So, she prayed it wouldn't be her designated house.

She was let out of her parent's grasp and took a moment to stare at the letter. The letter that would change her life forever. The dopamine running through her veins gave her a feeling so incredibly good; she never wanted to forget it. So, she would cherish this moment and never let it go.

Hey everyone, this is the editor. The author is currently at Universal getting that full Hogwarts experience! If you are all good and vote, then maybe she will tell y'all about how magical it was! As always, make sure to comment any suggestions or spelling/grammar errors so that we can fix it. We know the story is starting a bit slow, but hey, it is a slow burn after all! It will pick up once Charlotte finally gets to Hogwarts though, so stick around!
