CHAPTER THREE

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO TULAVU? No, me neither. But apparently Lucius Malfoy had been three times. To what extent you believed this statement, would rely on how much of a snake you considered Malfoy to be. Slughorn however, seemed compelled by his dramatic retelling of being bitten by a scorpion, while holidaying on the island.

"It was a nasty thing, won't have me going back in a hurry," He announced, earning a few sympathetic frowns.

"I can see why," Slughorn chuckled, taking another large gulp from his goblet.

"Miss Attwood, what about you?"

Beside me, Ettie sat up, a bored expression playing across her face, "What about me?"

"Have you got any action packed stories to tell?" Slughorn questioned, leaning foward slightly.

"Oh- um once, I got chased from my house In London, to Ottilies by a viscous dog," She said, a wide grin creeping across her lips.

Slughorns eyebrows shot up, "What breed of dog chased you?"

"I believe it was a Chihuahua," She answered, to which I struggled to stifle a laugh at the memory.

"Ah, yes, I can recall my third cousin-- once removed; Montague had one! Yappy little thing it was, never did like him," He replied, looking slightly troubled by the memory.

"How is that action packed?" Rodolphus sneered, shredding the few remaining pieces of beef on his plate.

"It was rather terrifying actually," Ettie replied.

"How funny,"

"Funny?" I asked, joining the conversation.

"How so?" I added.

"I've been chased by a doxie bigger than a Chihuahua, whilst in Australia" Rodolphus boasted rather proudly, sending a smirk Malfoys way.

I rolled my eyes, "P-lease! Everyone knows doxies are native to North America,"

Ettie sent a smirk in my direction, as Rodolphus sunk back into his chair.

"And everyone knows orphans are native to orphanages," Lucius spat, his voice bouncing across the nerves in my brain.

I looked away from the table awkwardly, not having a comeback for that one. You would have thought constantly bickering with Sirius would have prepared me for situations like that. But Sirius never said anything that would purposely upset me.

"Malfoy I suggest you shu-" Lily was cut off quickly, by Slughorn, who recognised the start of her long speech just as swiftly as the rest of us.

"Right, I think it's time for dessert,"

I watched, as Lily sent a sharp glare in Lucius' direction.

I wasn't caught of guard by his comment, he was known for digging to find personal information to use against people. I just didn't know how to respond.

With a swish of his wand and a few muttered words, the dishes were replaced with bowls of brightly coloured ice creams and jellies.

"I've never seen green ice cream before, what flavour is it?" Frank Longbottom inquired, picking up a spoon.

"Give it a try, boy,"

I went for the dark red coloured ice cream first, which I guessed would be cherry or strawberry.

Instead, the sweet but slightly bitter taste of pomegranates tingled on the tip of my tongue.

"It's lime," Frank replied, licking his lips.

"And the blue?"

"Blackberry," Snape replied.

I had almost forgotten he was there, due to how quiet he was. Unlike James and the others, I wasn't going to hex him simply for breathing.

"The yellow tastes like elderberries," Lily added.

"Ever so delicious,"

"You know, when I was a boy, my Mother used to be able to whip up a bowl of mint ice-cream in no time!" Slughorn grinned, already on to the jellies.

"However, good at potions sh-" Slughorn was cut off by rapid knocking on the door.

"Whoever could that be?" He asked, gazing around the table for any unfilled places.

"Come in!"

Remus burst through the door, his forehead sweaty and hair matted. He'd changed since I last saw him after class into dark trousers and a messy button up shirt.

"I need to borrow Ottilie, Lily and Ettie,"

There was something wrong, I could tell by the urgency in his voice, his pale skin and wandering eyes.

"Borrow? For how long?" Slughorn questioned, locating the three of us amongst his guests.

"I'm not sure, but it's important," Remus replied, eyes flickering to me.

Without a second word from Slughorn, I pushed myself up.

"Its been great, thank you," I mumbled, giving Slughorn a small smile.

Lily and Ettie followed, thanking him too.

"I hope to see you tomorrow then, at the leaving feast," He replied, waving us out, with a half confused half suprised expression.

We nodded and I caught up to Remus.

"Whats happening?" Lily asked, confusion clear in her tone.

"It's James-"

"What about him?" Lily interrupted.

"Fleamonts dead,"

I gasped, gripping Remus' arm.

"Dumbledore said Euphemias at St Mungos and... well, they don't think she has long left,"
