Henry and Amy May's house backed up onto their shop. The house on the back could have been considered small, yet they and their daughter found it quite sufficient and charming. It never felt small as Henry and Amy had worked hard to ensure the house felt homely and welcoming. Just like their business. Stars Hollow book shop was a place of a vast variety of authors and genres: from horror to history; from music to maths; from biography to biology; and from fiction to fact. It was their pride and joy after their daughter.Julia had quickly and happily accepted her parents love of books, music and life into her own personality. She was known throughout the small town of Stars Hollow and would never have a cruel word said against her. Julia helped her parents by working in their bookshop as and when needed. That had been where she had met Rory Gilmore. After the two had spent nearly a whole hour discussing the work of the three Brontë sisters as such a young age, the two had become inseparable with Lane soon joining, turing duo to a trio. Stevie also got along brilliantly with Lorelai and so did her parents which meant she could see Rory practically whenever she intended. However the Gilmore girls weren't always greated with such delight. The only time they weren't when it was to go to school.
Summer was over. That's what the honking of the horn meant. Summer was gone. Back to school. That's what the honkimg horn was implying. Summer was now done for another year. "Jules, are you going to stare into your breakfast and pretend you can hear Lor obviously waiting?" Amy asked her daughter holding back a laugh at Julia's dramatic pout.
"Come on Jule, honey, maths is calling," Henry faked enthusiasm.
"Ew." Julia replied fighting a smirk now. She grabbed her backpack and said goodbye to her parents before exiting the house.
"Get in loser. We're going to school." Lorelai yelled.
"Yay," Rory cheered.
"Sometimes, I swear you can't be my daughter," Lorelai remarked.
"But then she makes a witty comment," Julia added.
"And then the world continues to spin correctly on its axis," Rory finished causing all three girls to laugh.
"Anyway, making a pit stop before we drop Rory at the bus to heaven and Julia at the gates of hell," Lorelai said pulling up outside of Luke's coffee shop."Lukie pookie!" Lorelai yelled.
"Please don't call me that," Luke sighed.
"I'm sorry I'm just in such high spirits," Lorelai explained.
"Will you please lower them then?" Luke sighed.
"Three coffee's please," Rory said but Luke had already began pouring them having already predicted the usual and fixed order.
"That stuff is going to kill you," Luke warned.
"Oh well, already a milf, what else is there left to achieve?" Lorelai replied.
"Dignity." Luke deadpanned.
Lorelai looked at him with an eyebrow cocked, "We both know that went out of the window a very long time ago," she said.
"Along with sanity." Luke snarked. Causing Julia to let out a laugh she had been holding in watching the pair squabble."Rory, if you keep staring at me like that my head might explode," Julia laughed noticing her best friend's first day jitters becoming all consuming.
"Hon, we'll make it on time," Lorelai reassured her daughter.
"Well I better go, not everyone can go to a posh school!" Julia exclaimed sighing. She was a very clever person, always doing as well if not better than Rory, but whilst Rory found a loophole into private school, Julia was not so fortunate. She was stuck at Stars Hollow High. "Thanks for the lift Lorelai, I could've walked," she smiled, the woman had refused to let her walk a couple paces on account of saving her energy for the dilemma at hand - that is starting another year of school without her best friend. But, like her own personal guardian angel, Lane had just left her own house as Julia left the dinner."How was school?" Henry asked his daughter from behind the classic literature shelf he was restocking as she entered the shop.
"Kids still suck, curriculum still old and boring," Julia sighed flopping onto the chair behind the counter.
"That's the attitude!" Her dad yelled over the top making her laugh slightly.
"Got homework already?" Amy asked as Julia retrieved paper and pens from her bag.
"Just trying to get ahead," she smiled.
