It's been six years since Leni won as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines and her term is about to end. She has already done what was needed to be done for the country and now it is her turn to do something for herself.
She is currently preparing for her last SONA as a President before passing her position to someone who will win this year's election. She was supposed to be getting ready for her speech and all but she's just there sitting with her legs crossed as she is waiting for someone's message before going in front of the people like she used to.
Senator Risa Hontiveros. That's right. She is waiting for Senator Risa's message for her. For the past 12 years of them being together in campaign rallies, they have built a connection towards each other and Leni got used to her being always around, supporting her every step of the way.
Risa has been her number one supporter. In all those campaign rallies that they went to together, Risa never took her eyes out of Leni. She always cared for her during campaigns, she was the one who was looking out to her. Risa's always texting her a goodluck message, congratulatory message, birthday greetings for her and her daughters and always checking up on her. If it were for Leni, Risa is the ideal best friend that anyone could ask for. She chuckled upon realizing what she just said in her mind 'Risa wasn't just a best friend.' she thought.
Risa consistently greeted her every day, checking up on her and the girls, and sometimes would send them foods and presents. The last time she received a text from Risa was a year ago, which made her so confused. She tried to contact her, find her and even call her several times, but she didn't get a response. Months later, she received a resignation paper from her that broke her heart, but she knows that Risa has a reason.
She's staring at her phone for quite some time now, still waiting for a notification from her to pop up from the screen, but nothing. She will go up on stage in less than five minutes, and still no goodluck message from her.
"Ma, are you okay? Kanina ka pa po nakatitig sa cellphone mo." her daughter, Tricia asked her.
"Ha? Oo, ayos lang." she said and shook her head before heaved a deep sigh. Later on, her daughters already invited her to have a little prayer before going on the stage led by her youngest, Jillian.
As soon as they finished praying, they hugged their mother and said their goodluck messages to her.
"You can do this, Ma. We are all so proud of you. Dito lang kami, okay? Padabaon taka, Mama." Aika said as she kissed her Mom's cheeks. She smiled at her daughters and went out of the stage with a confident smile, the smile that would capture everyone's heart.
"...Muli po, maraming salamat sa inyong pagtitiwala at pagmamahal. Ingat po kayong lahat!" she said, closing her speech as she waves at these people who supported her along the way.
She looks at the crowd, hoping that her proud face would show up clapping her hands and cheering her, but the crowd is slowly fading and still no Risa. She heaved a really deep sigh before she turned her back at the crowd and walked towards the back stage.
"Mama! Ang galing mo!" Jillian enthuthiasly said as she welcomed her Mom with a hug. Aika and Tricia also followed in hugging her to show how proud they really are for their mother. Leni doesn't want to talk, obviously. She just hugged her daughters back and genuinely smiled at them before kissing their forehead.
"Ma, opo nga pala... Dumaan dito yung anak ni Sen. Risa. Si Kuya Kiko. Pinabibigay daw po 'to ni Sen. Risa sa'yo." her soul almost left her body when Jillian mentioned her name. Jillian handed her the white envelope with a pink ribbon on it.
