1. The Death of A Dear Lover

A/N- I lied. Kanae is dying this chapter, deal with it. Also, Kanao is only 2 years younger than Shinobu, so rn, she's 12. Ur the same age as Shinobu.
SOME OTHER INFO- there are only 8 hashira atm, but later on, Master Ubuyashiki will extend it to 9. The 8 hashira rn are Giyuu, Tengen, Rengoku, Obanai, Sanemi, Kanae, Gyomei, and Mitsuri.

Y/N POV

Many months have passed since Uzui asked me to be his tsuguko. During that period, I learned Sound Breathing, and how to use the technique properly, and efficiently. As Uzui suggested, I've developed my own breathing technique, so I am now a much stronger slayer. Some could compare my power level to the Hashiras'.

Kanae also introduced me to the new Love pillar, Mitsuri Kanroji, not too long after I mastered Sound Breathing. Kanroji was a very bubbly and energetic girl. She had pink hair divided into three thick braids that altered their color to green at about the mid-point of her hair. She seemed like a sensitive girl that would get flustered easily, but she wasn't exactly naive either. It was nice talking to her, but I'm not sure why Kanae asked me to meet her. I have great social skills!

I walked towards the butterfly mansion to see Kanae and Shinobu off on their next mission. I'd just gotten back from my previous mission, so I had a few bruises, but nothing serious. The girls' mission was on the outskirts of Tokyo, not too far from where I previously lived with my father. There have been reports of many teenage girls going missing and never returning, so the Kocho sisters were assigned to investigate. It was even rumored to have been a Uppermoon demon.

"Good morning," I said as I jogged and waved to the sisters.

"Good morning, Y/N-chan!" Shinobu replied cheerfully as she waved back at me. It appeared that her cheeks were a bit rosy. Was she sick? No, it couldn't be. Shinobu has the best immune system I know of. Wouldn't hurt to ask though.

"Shinobu-chan, are you sick? Your face is a bit red," I observed while bending down and putting the back of my hand to her forehead to see if she had a temperature. 

"What?! Sick?! I-I don't think I'm sick!" Shinobu stammered out as her face became even redder.

I blinked while in surprise at Shinobu's sudden outburst.

"Well, alright then," I finally replied.

"Good luck, my love," I said as I pecked Kanae on the lips, "Come back soon. If you get injured, I promise to treat your wounds with all of my love and care."

"Thank you, Y/N. Hopefully I won't have many wounds. But you can treat them when I get back, m'kay?" Kanae replied

"Yeah, promise?" I asked her one last time.

"Promise," She confirmed with a warm smile

"C'mon, Nee-chan. Let's go," Shinobu said as she walked tugged on Kanae's haori.

"Bye, Y/N-chan!" Shinobu shouted as she and Kanae walked towards the forest.

"Bye, be safe!" I replied, knowing full well that this mission was most likely harmless.

As I walked towards the entrance to the butterfly estate, I couldn't help but notice a lingering feeling in the back of my mind. For some reason, somehow the mission was going to be more challenging than it seemed. Like the complete fool I am, I ignored it and continued my way towards the estate. That was one of many mistakes I've made.
