Chapter One: A loss in the 99

"GIVE IT BACK!!"
"Umm, no."
"ROSA, GIVE IT BACK RIGHT NOW!"
"No Boyle, I'm not giving it back. I can't deal with your stupid attempts at making this thing work. You've said 'ow' 27 times this morning."
"I'm so close."
"No, I don't care."

They had been arguing like this for a good 30 minutes. "God, what are you two fighting about over there?" Amy was thoroughly annoyed at this point because it's impossible to get any work done when Rosa and Boyle start arguing like 5 year olds.
"Rosa stole my flipper!"
"Your what-"
Jake turned around, very intrigued and confused now. "My Flipper."
"You have to know I have no clue what that is Boyle" Charles walked over to Jake. "It's a Flipper 2.0, I found it online and I was testing it out when Rosa stole it."
"Because he was throwing it up in the air and shouting 'ow' when it hit him in the face!"
Rosa was over it at this point and her patience was wearing very thin.
"Why were you throwing it up in the air?" Amy asked. "When you throw it up in the air it is supposed to start spinning and the website said it would fly."
"Clearly it isn't flying so can you just give up?"
Boyle dramatically turned around. "No, Rosa, I cannot. Boyle's are very good at giving up, my great great uncle Boyle was known to have given up almost 800 times!" He said that way too proudly "But I got this for Nicolaj and I have to make sure it works before I give it to him."
"Well can you try it after work because some people are trying TO WORK." Rosa was shouting at this point. "Fine. But if Nicolaj gets hurt then it is on-" he stopped to dramatically point at Jake, Amy, and Rosa, "ALL of you." He sat back down and crossed his arms like a child.

A few hours passed and besides the three attempts Boyle made at trying to convince Rosa to give him the toy back, everything was pretty boring and normal. At least, until 2:38
At 2:38 Holt called everyone into a meeting.
"Squad, I have some terrible news. There's been a murder."
"Ooh, can I be on the case?!" Jake stood up, enthusiastic to be a part of a murder case. "Um." Everyone felt a unanimous confusion, Holt has never hesitated or said "um" before.
"Gina's been murdered."
Everyone in the room went silent.
After a moment Jake laughed, everyone looked at him with confusion. "Your kidding right? Gina put you up to this."
"This isn't a joke Peralta."
Jake went silent.
"Jake- are you-" Amy started, putting a hand on Jake's shoulder. "I'm fine." He got up and left the room before anyone could say something. No one was sure where he went, but they let him go off because they knew he needed to think. Gina was his best friend, and now she was gone.
