As the ball continued with its usual pomp and opulence, whispers fluttered through the shadows, casting a web of rumors and half-truths. In a dimly lit corner, a group of nobles gathered, their eyes darting around as they discussed the intriguing dynamics at play among the high society's most prominent figures.
"Guess Young Master Cale is still a child, it seems. To think he became the younger sworn brother of the crown prince," one of the nobles murmured, a hint of envy lacing his voice.
Another noble, his face obscured by the dim light, leaned in closer. "I think that's on the crown prince. He took advantage of Young Master Cale to secure his position as the crown prince."
"Poor Young Master Cale; he doesn't even know that his older brother figure is taking advantage of him," a third noble added, her tone laced with pity.
Yet, not all shared this cynical view. A younger nobleman, who had been quietly listening, countered, "And did any of you notice how Young Master Cale's eyes and features visibly soften at just a single sight of His Highness and his knight?"
"Yes! It is pretty obvious that he genuinely cares about them," another agreed eagerly.
"And His Highness knows about it and is taking advantage of it," the first noble concluded darkly, shaking his head in disapproval.
Meanwhile, away from the prying eyes and whispering lips, Cale, Prince Alberu, and Choi Han shared a more light-hearted moment in a secluded garden. The night air was crisp, the moon casting silver shadows on the marble statues that lined the pathways.
"Guess you're the bad guy again, hyung," Cale teased Alberu, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Thanks to your reputation, dear dongsaeng," Alberu responded with a chuckle, ruffling Cale's hair affectionately.
"That's thanks to Cale-nim's hard work, Your Highness," Choi Han added, his tone respectful yet filled with warmth.
"Dongsaeng, you look adorable as always," Alberu teased, a soft smile playing on his lips.
Cale's response was immediate and indignant. "I am not adorable." He frowned, his expression settling into a pout that did nothing to support his claim.
"I am fabulous," he declared, regaining his composure. His voice carried a smug and proud tone, his face transforming into a look of unabashed confidence.
The trio laughed together, the sound mingling with the rustle of leaves and the distant music of the ball. It was these moments, away from the court's scheming and the cold judgments of society, that Cale cherished the most. Here, he could shed the weight of expectations and simply be himself and most importantly, surrounded by those he trusted.
As the night deepened, the three discussed plans and possibilities. The mysterious Southern continent wasn't just a topic of academic interest anymore; it had become a potential turning point in their lives. Cale shared his concerns and his hopes, while Alberu listened intently, offering his insights and assurances.
"We'll explore this new land together," Alberu promised, his voice firm. "And we'll face whatever comes, as brothers."
"Agreed. We'll meet every challenge head-on," Choi Han vowed, his loyalty unwavering.
With a renewed sense of purpose and unity, they returned to the ballroom. The trio reentered the glittering crowd, their faces masks of calm and poise, but beneath the surface, their spirits were alight with plans for adventures yet to come. Each glance and gesture between them, observed or unnoticed, spoke of deep bonds and shared secrets—a trio set against a world of shadows and light, ready to reshape the future together.
