chapter two

dan was perched in the tall white chair watching the beach goers fill the sand. it was still early but everyone and their mothers were out trying to claim the best spot. danielle had her eyes on a sweet blonde boy who was walking with his friends. she was peering at him through the tops of her round rayban sunglasses.

"got a little crush or something?" colby asked while climbing to meet her in the chair.

dan immediately put her glasses back up and turned to face the water.

"hmm no- no I was just, making sure he didn't fall.." dan said as a coughed up excuse.

"i know those eyes, he's definitely your summer hook up." he said mocking her words from the day before.

"he is not! also these eyes happen to be the same ones you used to look at me in my oh so new bathing suit yesterday. explain that one beach
boy." dan pulled the glasses down to the bridge of hee nose and winked at colby.

danny had never been bold or outgoing. she was pretty laid back and reserved but something about the mere 24 hours she had known colby for, made her feel different.

"oooh she's feisty." he smacked her arm with the back of his hand.

"I'm waiting for an explanation.." she motioned for him to keep talking.

colby grabed the sunglasses from her tanned face and put them on his head.

"you'll have to catch me first." he said while jumping from the ladder on the chair.

he ran out towards the water, working his way though the countless beach chairs and umbrellas lining the beach.

he stuck his arms out wide and made a cupping motion with his hands, trying to signal danny to follow him to the water.

"YOUR CRAZY IF YOU THINK IM GONNA CHASE YOU AROUND LIKE YOUR SOME DOG TOY-" dan screamed to him before getting cut off.

she squinted and covered her eyes from the sunlight just enough to see that a blonde bombshell of a girl had waltzed her way over to colby and was messing with his hair and dans glasses.

"pfft well go figure" she puffed out.

she jumped from the chair, sticking the landing in the hot sand below her. she wasn't going to stick around and watch the two flirt by the water.

she walked into the watch tower and sat in one of the chairs by the desk.

"I see lin ruined your little moment huh?" taeo asked.

"lin..?" she questioned.

"right your new, that's lindsay, her and colby have been known to be a little off and on summer fling.. if you know what I mean.." he smirked and gave dan a shove.

she rolled her eyes, "I knew he had one.." she mumbled.

"had one what?" taeo squinted at her.

"a summer hook up, duh" she laughed and walked into the kitchen and grabbed a gatorade.

"if you think I was fooled to think I had any place in his mind. i was not." she sassed and walked back out into the open air.

dan climbed back up her chair tower and cracked open her blue drink. she took a few sips before feeling a tug at her feet.

"ow wha-" she looked down to see the brunette nervously looking at her.

"sorry about that, but uh she accidentally took your glasses." he said worried.

"my glasses? how did you let her? you knew they were mine?" dan got defensive.

"yes I know but she walked away before I could say they weren't mine and they were another life guards.. she probably thought they were just taeos.." he sad sadly.

"I see.. you didn't want to tell her they were your new girl coworkers, that you happened to take and run off with." she gave him a glare.

"well that's not it- I just- i don't know." he spit out.

dan crossed her arms and leaned back into her seat, "how are you gonna get them for me?" she pursed her lips.

colby perked up and began climbing closer to dan, "see she invited me to this party tonight, it's at her house and on the beach. we can get them then." he smiled, looking like he had come up with a brilliant plan.

"we?" dan said, confused and annoyed.

"well she said I could bring people, and i thought it would be hood for you to mingle and, maybe go with me?" he gave a hopeful smile.

dan thought about the girl she had seen earlier, how she had been all touchy with colby. danny wasn't saying she jealous of the girl- cause that would mean had feelings for colby. which she so totally does not. she just wanted to get her glasses back and if that meant going to this little party, so be it. but to be fair she did wanna make the blonde girl a little mad.

"fine..." she groaned. "I'll go with you." she looked into his eyes and said.

he reached out his hand for her and motioned for her to grab it, "we have got to get you ready."
