“HINATA, BOK—” Kageyama stops mid-sentence, freezing and shivering from the impact of the volleyball hitting his nape.

“OOOOH, service ace, [Y/N]-chan!” Tanaka cheers for you, who’s reciting the rosary for your mortality rate after hitting Karasuno’s #9 with a silly serve.

It was a calm afternoon that dropped by after a long day. The boys weren’t backing down, considering that their next opponent is Nekoma, which you were unfamiliar with, currently. I’ll watch their match later anyways, so it doesn’t matter, you convinced yourself.

Hinata, Kageyama, Tanaka, Nishinoya, Amanai, and you were practicing elsewhere after taking a pinch from their schedule. Tanaka said that their coach told them not to overwork and get well rest for tomorrow, but if it’s for practice anyway, it’s technically not gonna go to waste. At least that’s what he said.

You thought it was a good idea to have Amanai stroll by to practice with Tanaka, whom you thought she liked but there’s something amiss about them. You just shrugged it off.

It was a two by two match, Nishinoya and Tanaka on the other side, meanwhile they’re against you and Niiyama’s ace.

You and Nishinoya both agreed that one set is enough since they have their own business to take care of, and you respected that. You also had your own to hold off for your third match anyways.

However, when it was your turn to serve, you served it right to Kageyama who was also practicing non-stop, alone with Hinata.

“K-K—” you cough, choking on your spit and hastily walk up to Kageyama to apologize. “I’m so—!”

He looked at you and gave you a glare, the likes of which can penetrate you multiple times if looks could stab.

“...what kind of drink do you want?”

Hinata shrieks and dramatically creates a face of being puzzled. Amanai from behind shows that she’s bothered as well.

“W—” Kageyama’s irritated face casts a confused expression at you while his hand fidgeted with his nape. “Milk.”

“Okay, it’s on me.” you said, raising your thumb up and striking a smile while carrying your ball with the other arm. It’s also a maneuver you thought of to ask Kageyama some tips about setting with precision.

“HEEEY! Aren’t you going to ask me?! You invited me!” A familiar voice from not afar complains, Nishinoya whining and stomping his foot against the ground.

“But it’s him that I hit on the na—”

Out of the blue, Nishinoya just opens his arms wide and falls on one knee with a straight look on his face, saying, “Hit me.”

“No.” you responded.

“OI, OI, [Y/N], stop mingling and let’s play!” Tanaka disturbs you as you pass the ball to him.

“That’s an out for us!” you clarify while being bathed under the sun’s orange hues and walking backwards, back to your spot behind Amanai. “Sorry, Ami-chan.”

“It’s okay!” she cooes, delivering a smile of reassurance and nodding at you before returning her gaze to our opponent whilst her hair shone, being glittered by the sunset.

Damn it, she is so PRETTY. You cry in your own train of thoughts before focusing on the match.

Nishinoya on the other hand wondered for you. She’s been really casual and close with Ryuu lately. And Tobio even. I guess she just has an amicable nature by default. I suppose it’s a little too expectant of me to imagine that she had her eyes on me the whole time...so I have to impress her then!
