“Come on, [N/N]! Rise and shine, squid face.”

“That is not helping my mood right now.” You dart sharp glares at the shadowy figures trying to shake you awake from your misery first thing in the morning.

If it isn’t morning exercise, it’s gotta be the girls that ruin the delight of dawn, I swear.

A few days have already passed since the loss of your team in the Nationals. Since the third years will be graduating, the volleyball club has set up a final date for your seniors. A sort of “farewell party” if one may say.

Reluctantly, you give in, getting ready to hang out with the girls who were waiting outside of your room.

You felt a surge of insecurity enter your body. They’re all wearing pretty clothes.

And I have the dressing of a potato, hold up, that’s not right.

You spent a good quarter of an hour trying to figure out what would be best to wear, to fit in with them.

In the end, you concluded in wearing a t-shirt.

“What...are you wearing?”

“That is the most underwhelming skirt I’ve seen, [N/N], hahahaha! Kidding~♪ Maybe.”

“Hey! Nobody can rock this skirt and shirt more than I can. Bet you look like a devastated skunk wearing it.” you retorted to your senior in an agitated tone as you were fitting your foot in your heels.

It was a matter of seconds before you realize the gravity of what you have said, and immediately you stood up and bowed to apologize for the sudden remark you’ve given.

“Sorry! It was meant to be a joke! I didn’t mean..that. Sorry, I just—...” You stumbled upon your words. If you would have said that you were still upset about the Nationals, it’d sound like an excuse.

You heave a sigh, scratching your head and straightening your back, looking like you were carrying something heavy. The other girls remained in silence, mouth zipped from the raised thin tension present in your room.

“...n-no, it’s okay. I’m sorry too for waking you up this early, [N/N].” she played with her short skirt, refusing to look you in the eye as she was wearing an awkward smile on her face.

You were never particularly close with any of the 3rd years, except for your captain. They always seemed so...distant.

The only connecting factor to you was your relationship with them concerning volleyball. Yes, only volleyball. Not even school matters or personal life; you barely know anything about theirs aside from their profile in the club.

In a way, it may have upset you since it was a shallow connection among the players, or maybe it was just you while the others bonded.

“...”

“Right...so...since [N/N] is dressed now, shall we?” Amanai quickly fanned, chuckling in a light-hearted manner to ease the elephant in the room.

You hide behind her back, catching the fragrant scent from her hair. The others rushed outside after nodding off to Kanoka, greeting your mom on their way out. The car service was already waiting.

It didn’t take long before your wrist was carried along the marching band of Maiko and Amanai all throughout the day. Your mom had specifically stressed for you to go home early, to which you give a thumbs up.
