"Omg, Piper, you look so hot!" Casey squeals, sounding like a little girl.
"Thanks, Case," I say, kissing his cheek. "Where's Jack?"
"He's upstairs putting the finishing touches on his tux." Casey says, biting his finger nails.
I look up and down his tux, smiling at his bright pink shirt and silver tie. Only Casey.
"You look so handsome," I tell him, making him smile sheepishly, "I guess you really like Lily." I tease.
He punches my arm. "Piper!" He scolds, making me laugh. Then he blushes. "But yea..."
I grin at him. "You're so weird." I inform him.
"Oh," he says, "I know. Trust me, I know."
At that moment, Jack walks down the stairs, his hair quaffed perfectly, his brown eyes shining. His shoes are nicely buffed and his light blue button down, matches my dress almost exactly.
My mouth hangs open and Casey elbows me over and over. "Jack..." I say, my mind spinning. "You look gorgeous."
He laughs. "Oh, I know." He says.
"You are so humble." I tell him, grinning.
He beams at me. "And you look even more beautiful." He looks at the ground, shuffling his feet. "Thank you for going with me."
I make a face at him. "Who else would I go with?"
He shrugs. "Well, you never said yes to me asking you out." He points out.
My eyes widen. "Well, yes, absolutely." I roll my eyes as if to say, "duh."
He beams at me yet again. "Are you ready to go?"
I nod. We hop in the car and pick up Lily on the way to school. We get to Beacon Hills and we walk in the front doors, in a line of four. Lily looks cute in her regular sun dress, which is all she had.
We take pictures in the photo booth, the four of us, just Jack and me, and then just Casey and Lily. We make our way into the gym, welcomed by the lights illuminating than happy faces of the kids around us.
People dance all through out the gym, and obnoxiously loud music blares out of speakers next to the DJ.
Jack, Casey, Lilly and I dance for a while, sit down with Theo, Ryan, and their dates at a table we reserved, and gobble down enormous dinners.
We laugh and talk for hours, late into the night and then sill into the early morning. At one o'clock, the DJ announces he's gonna play the last song of the night.
He puts on "Kid in Love" by Shawn Mendes, and everyone runs into the dance floor with their dates. Heads get laid on chests, hands clasp other hands, and arms get wrapped around waists and necks.
I turn to Jack, who looks exhausted and I ease off my high heels, wiggling my toes, which ache from being scrunched up.
"What are you doing?" Jack asks, looking at me quizzically.
"I wanna dance." I respond, standing up and holding out my hand. "Would you do me the honor of being my partner?"
He smiles at me, stands up and takes my hand, and I lead him into the dance floor. I wrap my arms around his neck and his hands drop onto waist.
"I had the best night of my life today." I tell him, letting my body move with his.
I can hear the smile in his voice as he says, "So did I."
We dance in silence for a while until I break the quietness.
"This dance made my day." I inform him.
I can feel his hands brining my hips closer to him and I lean into him.
"Heck, it made my life." I add.His arms now wrap themselves around my waist. When he responds, I couldn't have loved his answer any more. "And you made mine."
And as I placed my head on his chest and moved with the music, I realized that life is perfect with all it's imperfections. The past affects the present, and the present is a gift.
If only jack was wearing a bow.
