"ARE YOU HAPPY?"

Seok Kyung turned before going back into her room with a puzzled expression. "Huh?"

"Are you happy?" Seok Hoon repeated. In his hands, he clutched the peach colored purse with a few pens, a cellphone, and a half-empty bag of seaweed chips.

Her eyes flew to the bag, then back up to his face. "I don't know what you mean."

"I mean... after all this. With Ms. Lee. With the pool... With Mom—"

"She's not our mom."

"Right— right. I know."

Except he didn't. He didn't know what to think of her. He didn't know what to think of anything. On one hand, he felt completely betrayed, being lied to his whole life after finding out Mrs. Shim wasn't his real mom. But on another... she was still—

He paused and sighed. He really didn't know anything. He didn't know what to say to his father, how to make sure Seok Kyung was okay, how to comfort crying girls.

It was all a giant car skidding up and hitting hard him with new things. Some of them life changing things he couldn't even wrap his head around. "I just wanna know if..." He swallowed, looking at the bag. "If you're satisfied. If all this... was worth it."

She glanced up at the ceiling, blinking rapidly.

Dumbass. He thought, internally hitting himself. Why can't you ever say the right thing?

She looked back at him and laughed, but there was no humor behind it. "You think... I'm happy?" She waited for him to answer, when he didn't, she scoffed and glanced around. "Seok Hoon, you forgot that I just lost two of the most important people to me because of this family. This screwed up—" She blinked again, faster. After a few seconds she sighed through her nose, opening her bedroom door. "I'm going to bed."

He didn't protest, fearing that saying anything might just make matters worse. So he nodded, and went to his room as well.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid." He muttered, sitting with his elbows on his knees. "She's acting out, misbehaving because she's coping. Like how Min Si was coping on the elevator. Seok Kyung gets angry, Min Si cries, his mother —not mother— cries."

What the hell do I do?

He started pacing the length of his room, cracking each of his knuckles to have something to do to keep him from exploding. "How the hell do I do this?" He breathed. "How do I deal with this shit?"
