Our family history was well known among the mafia community but it was always rumored that was left unconfirmed. So when Sara Fernandez's personality is talkative and seductive, we tend to filter our conversations with rumors and lies. As Amir and I smiled at her before walking towards the exit, she still continued to talk to us about our family she was still holding my keys but that didn't stop her from talking to us
"Guys, that was such an intense fight. Plus you told your brother off. Won't you get the pit."
"I guess but it tends to have bad reactions. Anyways, why are you asking Sara."
"Damn girl, I am your guy's best friend and family friend. Also, did you see the hot boy on the ground?"
"Yes but why do you have our car keys? No one is allowed to drive it."
" Well Amir I side-swipe a car, but it's still good plus I figure with Alianna being a mechanic she could fix it right up."
I huff at her and Amir pinch his nose. Hopefully I could get the marks out but Amir was not tolerating this. We both looked at each other and wondered how she got our car but then again she is known in the black market as the mistress of the night. Amir just held his hand out for the keys and before she could talk to us he just grabbed it.
"I'm driving and Alianna will call you later. We need to go now Sara."
" How come? Can we not ride together and go to your house"
"No. Amir, let's head out."
Amir smirked but I knew because I knew we needed to handle business. It comes with having a well-known name that many mafias want to do business with you but I guess Sara wanted to know about our part in the family. Even if we consider her family as family friends, the Fernandez were known to double-cross everyone.
"Goodbye, Sara."
As her name rolls off my tongue, Sara's face goes blank. Almost like she knew she would not get past us with her ways. Oh, how this gives me such a rush. Amir and I loved the feeling when our enemies could not get the satisfaction of getting information. Everyone fears the truth behind the rumors but our word was law, and the shock never fades because even after death, our reputation is still whispered. My family's name is feared, and we all have been raised for us to be feared, but the events and standards for mafia children are strict. A perfect image must be maintained. So as we grow up we are known for our responses in the world of mafia.
My brother Amadeo was the prize possession of our fathers. He was to be the sole heir to take over our father's mafia but he always had plans for our brother. Amadeo was to become a cruel, sex-driven whore and focused on ideals that my father approved. So well our grandfather took interest in Amir's and my future. He left our elder brother's future in the hands of the one that betrayed his family. When the day comes Amir and I will have more responsibility and power compared to the De Jesus mafias.
I sent her a sad smile before Amir and I headed to the car. It was no use for us to head home because in the end, the pit was calling our name. As we enter our car Amir just sighs. As he drove, trees became a blur and the rich neighborhood became distant.
"Come on Lanie. We know either way it is always going to be the pit. Father never will change his ideals for us."
I stare at Amir and just sigh. I understood where he was coming from and the ideals my father headset for us is not a choice to show tough love but rather a death sentence. Our bodies could show the results of the battles we have won but the wars we have lost. All we ever wanted was the attention and love a father could give but not in this lifetime would we see it.
"Amir, some battles can be won but our war with our father is one we will never win or see the end. The attention we crave will never come nor will we see it in this lifetime. All we can ever do is work towards the forgiveness of the royal family."
