IVORY HICKMAN couldn't remember a time in her life before Bruce Wayne. He had always been there, was always right beside her in every photo, in every memory. He had been the one to patch up her scabbed knee when she fell from her bike the first time, and he had been the one to patch up her broken heart when the boy she liked pushed her off the swings.
When Bruce's parents died, Ivory learnt for the first time what it was like to live without him. She watched the boy he was fade into a ghost, and he stopped returning her calls. Now, it was a rare occasion to find Bruce Wayne out in public.
Sometimes, if the timing was right, she could still catch the smallest glimpse of a grin on his face whenever she managed to finally coax him out of his shell to spend time with her again, but the moment would end too quickly, and the sight of her best friend would fade away right before her eyes.
Then, strange disappearances start happening around Gotham City, and even stranger threats, and Bruce Wayne becomes more distant if that were somehow possible.
When her father goes missing, all Ivory wants is the one person whose always been there for her to show some sort of sign that he still cares. Instead, she gets her next door neighbor, Naomi Black, who is a hyperactive party animal that Ivory turns to in a time of need, but she doesn't fill the void. Nobody could-nobody but him.
But he never shows, and Ivory is forced to seek him out in an entirely different way. Because she too has a secret, a secret that even she shouldn't know, but she does. Because she recognizes that jaw, and she recognizes that walk.
And what happens if she befriends Batman just to feel closer to Bruce Wayne?
