Malibu Beach, California
***

They were sitting in Nyla's car now, watching and listening to the crashing of the ocean just mètres away from them.

It was dark out, and they were parked on a cliff overlooking the ocean out in front of them that was only visible thanks to the moonlight. It all felt very therapeutic, and Yoaly felt like she was part of a very cliché movie scene or something.

Nyla mentioned that she likes to drive out to the beach sometimes when she just needs to get away from the city and clear her mind. And once Nyla mentioned the beach, that's all that was on Yoaly's mind. Even if she couldn't actually go out to the water because it was January and freezing cold, she just wanted to be near it. She wanted to experience that calmness and tranquility Nyla claims to experience when she goes there to clear her mind. And trust, Yoaly had a lot going on in hers.

"I wanna go out there," Yoaly whispered after just watching the crashing of the ocean from inside of Nyla's car for a while

"You know it's cold as hell out there, right?"

"I know, but I don't care."

"Aight," Nyla sat up from her very relaxed slouching position in the driver's seat. "Let's go then."

"You don't have to come with me if you don't want to."

"I don't mind."

"Okay," Yoaly got out of the car and waited for Nyla to meet her on her side before they started their walk down to the beach.

And the closer they got to the water, the windier it got, and the colder it felt.

Yoaly regretted not bringing her beenie with her. And she also regretted not putting on a thicker shirt under her fluffy sweater.

"You cold?" Nyla asked her, even though that was pretty obvious because Yoaly had her arms wrapped so tight around her body.

"A little bit."

Nyla was about to wrap her arm around Yoaly, but she quickly pulled back from her though, not wanting to touch her without her permission first.

"It's okay," Yoaly nodded her head. She took Nyla's arms and wrapped them around her body, pulling them close together as they continued walking.

The two finally made it down to the water, and sat down in the dry sand, just before where the water was hitting the shore. Nyla still had her arms wrapped around Yoaly, and Yoaly was cuddled into her chest as she looked out at the water in front of them.

She's been to the beach numerous times before, but never like this. She's never just sat and watched the waves before, and really allowed herself to reflect on her life and what's she's actually been through the last few months.

Yoaly felt strangely calm sitting with her head gently resting against the chest of a girl she doesn't know in the slightest, and might never meet again after that night/morning.

"You think I'm gonna try and kill myself. That's why you don't want to leave me alone," was the first thing Yoaly said after a long moment of silence between them.

It wasn't awkward silence though. It was a good type of silence. A comfortable type of silence.

"What?" Nyla asked.

She fully understood what Yoaly said, but she wanted her to explain it.

"I told you that you could just bring me back to my hotel, and you brought up the beach instead. You're clearly doing this to try and distract me."
