Bloody waters.
That's the last thing that the girls saw before they blacked out. The feeling of the water heating and their skin burning was enough to make them pass out as the underwater volcano erupted, taking the lives of 4 other fellow mermaids; one of which was Abigail's father. As they float, powerlessly and with no notion of what has happened, the volcano's eruption causes the now tainted waters to form huge and frightening waves, causing the girls to be pushed towards the Galveston shore, still unaware of the devastating earthquake and tsunami the volcano has caused. From the shoreline people run in terror as a tsunami wave barrel towards them at rapid speeds as it unforgivingly hits the shore causing people to fall and get pulled under as the water makes its way to the city. The force and strength of the water causes cars, people, and even some stilted houses to be carried away. Cable lines fell, people perished, and tragedy struck as the people of Galveston had no choice but to surrender to the waves as they crashed and ruined the place many call home.

Abigail jolts awake gasping and flopping her, now legs, trying to figure out what had happened. She looks around and notices that it's quiet and she's in a place she has never seen before. Her father had always told her not to go above the waters in fear of them taking her. As a child she would always swim to the top of the Gulf and look towards the shore seeing people that look just like her, yet, they didn't have a tail like her and they seem to be afraid of water and able to breathe the blue air more easily than she could. She looks to her left to see nothing but a broken wooden house as she realizes she is atop of something. She reaches down and feels what she believe is metal. She noticed that she was on top of a blue 'rolling machine' as her father would call it. She rolled to the left and fell off the car, scraping her now knee. Looking down, she notices that she no longer has her tail but instead two brown skin toned stumps with two weird flipper shaped things attached to the bottom of each of them. Getting scared and not understanding what's going on, she freaks out and calls for help."CHERYL!!!! KATE!!!!!!" She screams as she looks around once more noticing that the sky is a darkish white with a thick greyish smoke in the ocean she calls home.
She starts to try to get up and go near the ocean only to realize that the two stumps she now has don't work like a tail. Taking deep breaths to try and calm herself down and try and make sense of what is going on, she leans her back against the blue rolling machine while she pushed up with the ends of the stumps causing her back to slide up the blue machine as the ends of the stumps now support her full body as she was now standing upright. She turns now leaning her left arm against the machine and starts to try and move both stumps at the same time; which causes her to almost trip and fall onto the ground again. Noticing that walking isn't the same as finning, she starts to move her right leg separately and moves it forward. As she did, she noticed how to ground she was stepping on felt so unnatural. Her right flipper on her right stump felt the tough and rigorous ground as it got used to stepping on the little rocks and wooden pieces that covered it.She moves her left foot getting the hang of separate fin moving and starts to keep moving the way she just learned; she can now walk.
With a big smile on her face, happy that she can now move, she stumble walks a few steps and notices stump walkers laying on the ground not moving. seeing a small child, she run stumbles over to see if the boy and the other humans are okay. She lays her head on the boys chest, which is how her father taught her to check if someone is breathing, and notices a faint heart beat. She starts to gently tap the boys face and shake him.
"Hello? Can you hear me?" She says as she lays her head down on his chest again and feel his heart beat getting weaker.
Carefully she places her hands flat on the boys chest and closes her eyes. A warm white light emits from her hands as she attempts to heal the small human. After a minute the boy's body jolts and coughs up water causing Abigail to get scared and scoot back as the boy regains consciousness. He stops coughing after a few seconds and looks around noticing the destruction all around him from the tsunami. His eyes stop on Abigail as he looks at her confused.
