Sirens: Mermaids out of Water

Kate's More Than Okay/Realization hits

As Abigail and Cheryl walk out of the alleyway, Cheryl see's that the world around her is worse than she had previously thought also.

The sight causes Cheryl's eyes to water again as she grips tighter to Abigail as they continue to walk. There's many first responders around now, either getting people on stretchers or trying to calm people down that have now waken up; confused on what's going on.

Abigail and Cheryl walk for about 30 minutes, stopping occasionally to assure first responders that they were okay. A first responder woman walks up to the both of them to ask them if they needed any food or water. Cheryl takes a bottle while Abigail politely declines as they set off walking again.

After 10 more minutes of trudging through the calf level waters, they both came across a small restaurant that was surprisingly still standing. Getting closer, they heard a very feminine laugh along with a deep laugh right after. They both walk inside to see a blonde haired blue eyed girl leaning across a island table talking to a, as well as the girls could see from behind, light brown haired man in a torn and drenched dark blue suit.

The blonde girl looks up at Abigail and Cheryl and immediately her and the girls eyes widen. Without a second glance Cheryl breaks from Abigail's arms and darts towards the woman.

"KATTEEE" Cheryl screams as she wraps Kate in a tight hug, almost making them both crash to the ground. Abigail joins in also feeling instantly ten times better.

"You seem to be okay." Abigail says mockingly as she crosses her arms and laugh at Kate's antics. She knew that from the way the dark haired man looked, Kate was working her magic.

"Of course not even a tsunami could stop Kate from being Kate." Abigail thought as she lets a big smile appear on her face. Seeing both Cheryl and Kate alive and well was enough for Abigail to almost forget the all the bad things that has happened.

Still hugging Cheryl, Kate looks towards the man and points at him with one hand.

"This here, my dolls, is Kevin Darcy and he's hot."

She says whispering the last part so that only Abigail and Cheryl could hear. This causes Cheryl to playfully roll her eyes and Abigail to start thinking.
Kate noticed that Abigail was deep in thought and looked at Kevin with apologetic eyes.
"I'm sorry but, us three should really get going, it was very nice meeting you!" Before Kevin could even get a word out, the girls left as Kate pushed Abigail and Cheryl out in a hurry, leaving Kevin all by himself in the small restaurant.
As The three girls get outside the restaurant, that's when Abigail breaks her silence.

"How do you both understand how to use these stumps so well?" Abigail asks looking confused.

Kate and Cheryl seem to not stumble or trip as much as Abigail was since she was still not used to walking. The question causes Kate and Cheryl to topple over laughing.
After a while of them laughing, Abigail was starting to get annoyed.
"What is it?" She asks in an angry huff.
"Have you seriously never been on land before Abby?" Kate ask laughing as Abigail looked wide eyed at her. Abigail's father wouldn't even let her go to the top of the water, let alone on land.

"Your father's let you both go into your stumps?"
"Huh?" Cheryl ask looking confused.
"What are stumps?" Kate finally asks, holding in a laugh.

"These things." Abigail says as she gestures to her legs. Kate and Cheryl stare at Abigail, not blinking. After a few seconds they burst out in laughter again, this time, attracting attention of survivors who look at them in distain.
"Stop laughing like that! You guys act like we DIDN'T just go through a tsunami." This causes Kate and Cheryl to silence themselves almost instantly. Now feeling bad and thinking about their own situation in this whole natural disaster. Abigail sees their faces drop and feels bad as she seemed to only make them remember the tragedy that just occurred.

"Im sorry I didn-" Abigail starts to say before she gets cut off by Kate.
"No you're right, we should be helping out and focusing at the problem at hand." Kate says with a small smile and Cheryl nods in agreement.
"We'll talk more about these "stumps" later." Kate says with a laugh as she puts her arms around both of the girls necks and starts walking towards the shore-line.

After a while they got there. All three girls standing and looking out towards the ocean. All around them are people, dead and alive, broken homes and furniture all over the earths ground with a lot of dead sea animals also scattered across the ground. While looking out, Cheryl wonders if any mermaids like them had washed up out the sea, but even if they did, they would be well hidden since they look like humans or.....they would be dead. The realization causes tears to prick at Cheryl's eyes as she wraps her arms around Abigail's waist, hugging her for comfort. Abigail then stokes Cheryl's head, hoping to give Cheryl some extra comfort and ease her worries some.
Kate looks towards Cheryl and Abigail with sadness in her eyes. The pain was getting to Kate and Abigail a lot, but they wouldn't show it. They both wanted to be strong for Cheryl, since her and her father were new to the Gulf of Mexico, and her and Kate's fathers along with all of their mothers had went out right before the underwater volcano had erupted. While that meant it was a high chance of them being alive, the contaminated waters made it impossible for them to come back.

The girls all looked at each other silently, lost and  scared, wondering if their families were okay. While Abigail knew the fate of her father she couldn't help but wonder about her brother and mother. Also with how dirty the waters are, they wouldn't be able to swim in them for a while considering how polluted it is from the debris dragged in from land. The thought of their families gone scared the girls and made them all feel as they were alone. But as long as they had each other in this mess, they would be okay.

"We'll be okay. Okay?"
