My eyes snap open, and I breathe heavily. My tail is curled up, and my wings are wrapped around me, along with my shaking talons clutching desperately at my horns. I sigh and flop onto my side, my wings folded up, my tail still curled up, and I am hugging myself. I glance around at the ramshackle old hut near a five-tree oasis that I saved from a fire. Most of it was ashes, but I used my magic to restore everything just the way it was. I found a single gold earring on the small bed that had appeared when I restored it. The earring is currently on the small table next to the bed, and I sit up, put it on, and sigh. I put an enchantment on it so that whoever is wearing it is indestructable as long as they don't forget the earring's there. On a scavenger, it would be a circlet. Anyways, I get out of the bed and stretch and yawn, then smack my lips and catch a camel for breakfast. My hut, which originally belonged to a SandWing called Prickle, who had a sister named Palm, who had a daughter named Onyx, who fought the other queen, Thorn, who had a daughter, Sunny, who has a daughter named Sahara, who is the SandWing Queen, is my temporary base while I look for my parents. Lot of "whos" in that sentence. Anyways, I think, I'd better check with the Queen if my mom is here. I head towards the palace. I arrive at the front gates, and there aren't any guards. I stroll into the busy courtyard and almost immediately bump into a vendor that's selling roasted crocodile. He tries to offer me some, but I tell him, "I'm sorry, I don't have any money." Every once in a while, I ask someone if they know where Antelope is, and no dice until I come across a SandWing slightly larger than me that has no barb. I ask her, "I'm sorry to bother you, but do you happen to know a female SandWing called Antelope? She's my mother." She smiles and replies, "She was once my royal advisor." My eyes widen, and she continues, "Former Queen Sunny of the SandWings, at your service."
