A couple of days after the death of Katherine's mother, a funeral was held, and surprisingly many had joined. The guests included some unlikely figures that Katherine had only ever heard stories of. Some of those who attended the funeral included Alastor Moody, the most famous Auror of all time, or that was what she had been told, Andromeda and Ted Tonks, her aunt and uncle from her dad's side who didn't disown Sirius Black after his objection to pureblood supremacy, Remus Lupin, her Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher who claimed to be an old friend of her mother and father, and finally Albus Dumbledore himself offered to come and pay his respects.
The funeral was held at the graveyard of Godric's Hollow, the same location where Harry's parents had been buried. The procession was sad and the atmosphere was dismal. Katherine wasn't bothered much throughout the funeral, everyone knew the amount of pain she was in.
"Kat," Fred said, slipping his hand into hers and giving her a kiss on the cheek, "are you ok?"
Katherine nodded, her eyes transfixed on Professor Dumbledore, who had risen to say a few words.
"Honey Black," Dumbledore began, "Mother, wonderful student, Auror and member of the Order of the Phoenix."
Order of the Phoenix? Katherine thought to herself That's new.
"She was an amazing person, definitely one of the brightest witches of her age, she worked along others to keep Voldemort and his followers at bay through her excellent work as an Auror," Dumbledore smiled to Katherine, "And she raised her daughter to be just like her."
A single tear rolled down Katherine's cheek. She missed her. Fred gave her hand a squeeze, She was happy he forced his way into coming to the funeral. She couldn't have stopped crying, otherwise.
"Hello," A voice came from over her shoulder. She turned to see Andromeda and her husband smiling at her, "I don't think we've met personally before, Andromeda Tonks." She struck out her hand for her to take. Andromeda Tonks had nutty brown hair just above her shoulders and a sweet smile, Katherine had heard many stories of her being the middle Black sister, one of her dad's cousin's, who was disowned from her family after her marriage to the muggle-born Ted Tonks
"I don't think we have," She replied, wiping her face with her sleeve before taking her hand, "It's nice to finally meet you."
"I am so sorry for your loss," She apologized, and in an undertone, she added, "You should know, not everyone in you dad's family hates him."
"Thank you," She smiled, she also whispered, "It's good to know."
"Ah, Katherine, how have you been?" Remus Lupin stood over her, he wore a warm smile, which much reminded her of her mother's.
"Professor Lupin? What, why are you here?" She asked, puzzled at his presence.
"I was quite good friends with your mother and father, when we were at school," He set a firm hand on her shoulder, "I am so sorry, Kat." Katherine gave him a cheery smile.
Suddenly she was pulled away by one swift pull of Fred's hand,
"Kat, there's something you're not telling me," He eyed her suspiciously, "everyone is talking about your dad, you've never actually told me who he was, not that I needed to anyways-"
"No, you're right," She took a deep breath as she strolled away from the congregation, "My father is Sirius Black." She always knew Fred was dramatic, but his reaction was way beyond her imagination. His jaw practically dropped to the floor, and his body came with him. His head was in his hands, as if in deep thought. Its kind of adorable, she admitted to herself, holding in laughter.
"So you're telling me your dad is accused of several murders and has escaped the most heavily guarded prison in the world?" Katherine nodded, trying not to meet his eye.
"Well when you put it like that-" She trailed off.
"Kat, how could you not tell me earlier?" He asked her. She just shrugged, sitting beside him.
"You know you can tell me anything, right?" She stared at the floor. He smiled and pulled her into a hug, "I'll love you, no matter what."
"Thanks, Fred, but it's very difficult to explain, especially as, well, it has to do with Harry." She started to play with the loose laces of her shoes.
"What do you mean?"
"Ugh I shouldn't have said that," She sighed.
"Well if you don't want to talk about it, then I won't force you." He pulled her up off the ground.
