The lot of them were still a bit drowsy from the train ride, but were awoken by the intense smell of the delicious food wafting out of the great hall. They all took a seat at Gryffindor table, immediately starting a conversation about Quidditch,

"I still  don't know why Ron's still on about those Chudley Cannons," George huffed, "They are the worst,"

"I think he needs help." Fred stated, putting his hand on the table aggressively. They all fell about laughing but stopped quickly as they a swarm of new first years at the entrance to the great hall.

"There's Ron," George waved a lanky red head who was slipping effortlessly through the swarm of first year.

"Where's Harry and Hermione?" Katherine asked him.

Ron shrugged, "McGonagall's talking to them, dunno what's it about."

The sorting had already been completed by the time Harry and Hermione had been spotted at the large doorway, accompanied by Professor McGonagall.

The two crept as quietly as possibly as they could to the Gryffindor table.

"Where've you two been?" Katherine asked them as they took their seats, either sides of Ron.

Harry began to explain in a low whisper but was interrupted by Dumbledore's speech. Katherine usually blanked out of speeches but this time, her ears perked up at the talk of dementors. She had always shown a great interest of them.

Once Dumbledore had finished, the feast began and everyone had started talking at once. She listened to her friends whilst her eyes wondered up to the podium, where Dumbledore was sat. Thoughts were rushing through her head. She had never really thought a lot about her father before the last couple of months, where he had escaped Azkaban, was on the run and labeled as a mass murderer. It never really occurred to her that she really was in need of a father figure until now. But having a dad accused of murder got her a lot of questions, especially after his escape. She always pushed them away with, 'Blacks' a common surname' or  'he's a distant relative'. But what most of all gave her guilt, was the lies she had been feeding her friends for the last few months. She met Dumbledore's eye for a moment and nodded to her. She wasn't quite sure what this meant, but she had a faint idea.

"Kat, I was just thinkin-" Fred turned to talk but was cut short,

"Sorry Fred, I'll meet you in the common room later," And in a blink of an eye she had gone.

"Where'd she go?" George asked, equally confused as Fred, "She can't've just apparated?"

Fred shrugged, still trying to register what had just happened.

Katherine suddenly reappeared in what she assumed to be Dumbledore's office. It looked, magical. Each wall was lined with books, and at the large desk sat Dumbledore himself, his half-moon glasses reflecting the flickering fire-lit lamp beside him. His face, cheerful as usual.

"Miss Black," He beckoned with one of his long, bony fingers. She came up to his desk, trying to fathom what could he possibly be wanting with her.

"I don't believe you to be a trouble maker," He said, setting his half-moon glasses on the table, "And I definitely do not blame you for what you father did-"

"Professor Dumbledore, I know what you are going to say, you don't want to me to tell Harry about the Sirius Black case and how he's my father, but Sir I don't think he'll mind-" She went on but was stopped by Dumbledore raising his hand.

"Miss Black, all I wanted to say was that I don't want Harry to know about the incident on the night of his parents' death," He said calmly, "nor the fact that Sirius Black is your father, he is not ready to hear the truth yet."

Katherine went quite red in the face and looked down at the floor, feeling quite ashamed at her assumptions. When she finally looked up, he was smiling at her.

"You may leave for your common room." He finally said.

She walked down the winding staircase that led back down to the main school and she made her way back to the common room. She repeated the password hastily to the fat lady ,who was very absorbed in showing off her singing skills, before climbing through the portrait hole

She was greeted by the warm sight of Fred laying by the fire, his head dangling sleepily from the armrest of the sofa. He jerked awake as soon as Katherine gave him a sharp poke in the stomach,

"KAT, what was that for?" He pulled her onto the sofa next to him.

"Why are you still up?" She asked him. He put his head on his shoulder,

"Waiting for you," He smirked. Katherine giggled, it gave her butterflies. She hid her face in her knees, hiding her red cheeks. When she finally showed her face, still a bit pink, Fred gave her a wide smile, making her stomach give a lurch. He tucked a piece of her jet black hair behind her ear before meeting her eyes.

Fred POV

It felt like the right moment, but I knew it wouldn't happen. Kiss Kat? I was crazy. She was my bestfriend I couldn't kiss her. She probably doesn't even like me. But I slipped my hand into hers and squeezed it instead. Her eyes were a deep, emerald green, anyone could get lost in them, they were like jewels. I couldn't speak for a minute, like I had been paralyzed. I think it was pretty obvious I had been staring at her,

"What you lookin at?" She asked me, bringing me back to the real world.

"You," I smirked. She got up and tried to hide her face in her sleeve. I got up and pulled her towards me, into a hug. She buried her face in my shoulder and mumbled something. I couldn't hear but I didn't mind, I didn't care. I loved her and she was the person I wanted to be with forever, I just don't think she knew it.
