This doesn't start like I usually start my books, instead it's set a few years in the past, giving you context for shit

(Left is Kaori, right is Akari)
Kaori's P.O.V.
I walked through the yard, looking up at the stars twinkling in the navy sky. I let out a quiet sigh, slipping into the big house, setting my things to the side.
It was late, and I was sure Akari was asleep. Good. She needs all the rest she can get. Our parents have high expectations for her. I'm sure she can meet them.
"What the hell have you been doing?" A voice suddenly ripped through the silent living space, causing me to jump in surprise.
"U-Uh, I was out by the river!" I squeaked out, my eyes meeting the cold ones of my mother.
"Tch. Should've stayed out there all night sharpening your skills. We don't need a weakling like you running around here, spreading your filth around this clan." She spat and I looked away, timidly clutching my arm.
"Get to bed. Now." She added, her tone icy and void of emotion.
"Yes ma'am." I nodded briefly before making my way over to my room.
I looked over at Akari's door, which was right across from mine. My older sister. I lifted my fist, hovering my hand over her door. I frowned, watching it shake. I lowered my hand, quietly sliding Akari's door open. I quickly spotted her sleeping form under the covers, her beautiful red hair spilling out over her sheets. I was about to leave when a small snicker stopped me.
"You know it's pretty creepy to watch someone sleep." Akari's smooth voice rippled through the air as she turned over, allowing me to see her smiling face.
"But you're not sleeping." I replied, stepping into her room, closing the door behind me.
"Yeah, but you thought I was, so it's the same thing." She shruggedas she sat up, patting the spot next to her. I paused before slowly making my way over to her, sitting at the foot of her bed.
"Oh come on, Kaori! I don't bite!" She reached over and nudged my shoulder, and I sighed, giving her a small smile. We sat there in a comfortable silence as I played with my hands in my lap.
"Akari, do you think mom and dad hate me?" My voice was quiet, and I didn't bother looking up from my lap.
"What? Of course not." She replied, scooting closer to me. "They love both of us. Even if they have a weird way of showing it." Akari mumbled the last part, and I peeked at her from my corner of my eye.
"Then how come they treat me like a failure? They don't even know what I can do." I muttered, and Akari sighed.
"That's because you've never shown them anything." She replied, and I gripped the fabric of my pants.
