The least favorite

I'm the least favorite friend.

Have you ever felt that way before? Does it make you feel less of a friend?

I asked the stranger.

"Do you have anyone who's afraid to lose you?"

It was a lazy afternoon. I was with a friend. I'm a doubtful person that craves affirmation, so I asked her a question. What are you going to do if I break off or suddenly drift away for no apparent reason?

I knew what she would answer, and the exact words from my mind came out of her mouth. "It's okay, leave if you want to leave."

How easy... How predictably correct...How upsetting that answer was.

Not to brag, but after all those efforts, genuine smiles and hugs, I guess I wasn't that important... not that special to pursue and just easy to let go.
