Michael's POV
Today was like any normal day, there was nothing new. Although today I've been feeling a bit emotional lately. "You okay mike?" y/n looked over me as she gave my hand a squeeze. "Yeah I'm doing alright" I smiled reassuring her. "Guess this is my stop" "Guess it is" We both stood there in front of her driveway. "I'll call you before I head to bed okay?" she smiled and I smiled back "Okay" I kissed her cheek and she did the same "I love you" "I love you more"
She winked, and began walking towards her porch. I stood there watching her enter her house safely. I walked back to mine as soon as she closed the door behind her. I felt so uneasy today. I should probably just rest.
I walked into my house and stood by the doorway as I kicked off my shoes. I heard giggling from both Elizabeth and Evan and followed by my father's voice. Part of me felt empty.
I walked into the living room seeing my father hang out with my siblings. Making them laugh. Telling them stories. He seemed more cheerful now... then when he had me..
Flashback - 1973 - 3rd person POV
Michael waited along with his classmates. Well apart from them. They were never too fond of him. He was always left alone and was apart from everyone. No one liked hanging out with him for being into supernatural theories. He always held a notebook filled with drawings of hybrid creatures. They always thought it was weird except for one specific person.
Jeremy Fitzgerald. Best friends since preschool. They never left each other's side, since Jeremy was also considered as an outcast. Although today he wasn't here due to the flu he got a couple of days ago. It's just been Michael by himself. He would draw during break finding new ways to combine a gorilla and a spider, or a fox and a bunny.
William pulls up to the curb and Michael looks up from the ground in excitment. He had taken a math test and got another good grade. He wanted to impress his father. "Mrs. K my fatha is here!" Michael told the teacher with excitment. "Okay go ahead michael!" she smiled as she watched the brown haired boy run to his father's car. He hurried in the backseat and got onto his booster seat.
He learned how to buckle himself since, big boys do things by themselves and don't need any help. At least that's what his father said.
"Look dad I got a 10/10 on my-" "Not now Michael" Michael frowned a bit. He's never gotten attention from his father. He was always working or spending his break in his workshop. So this was nothing new to him.He always had an empty feeling in his heart, that was only filled with the love and affection he received from his mother. William wasn't very fond of children. He never grew a liking to them, he always hated the idea of taking care of one, but for the sake of William and Clara's marriage, he had no other choice.
William kept his eyes focused on the road as Michael tried to find a way to tell him the good news. He's always been a smart kid and it surprised his teachers how much of a fast learner he was. He definitely got the brains from his father.
As they make their way back home, they pass by Mcdonald's. Michael gasps "Fatha can I get a happy meal?!" "No theres food at home" William said coldly. He just wanted to get home and away from Michael. "Pretty please I got a good grade on my test!" Michael pleaded "I said no Michael!" he raised his voice as William made a turn into the neighborhood.
Michael looked out the window in frustration. He didn't understand why his father wouldn't give him the attention he deserves. He never played with him. He never cooked for him. Never did his hair for him. His mother was the one who did everything for him. He watched seeing the children outside on the yard playing with their dad's.
A tear fell down his cheek. "I can't believe you're crying" William sighed in frustration "I-i'm sorry" Michael's voice cracked a bit as he held back tears. Wasn't even allowed to cry in front of his father.
William on the other hand loved the vulnerability Michael had. Whenever he did something wrong it was a chance to scold him. Or rather yell at him for his mistakes just to watch him cry.
They arrived at the 2 story house, in Hurricane, Utah. Michael unbuckled himself as his dad was already out of the car and unlocking the front door. He hurried behind his father still carrying his test in his hands. "We are home honey!"
Mrs.Afton carried baby Elizabeth in her arms. "Welcome home" she kissed William's cheek as he made his way back to the basement. She turned her attention to Michael "How was school sweetie?" "I got a good grade" he felt agitated just saying that sentence. Afraid his mother would give him the same reaction his father did.
"That's great sweetie!" Mrs.Afton bent down and side hugged him. At least he felt appreciated by his mother.
Flashback ends - Michael's POV
I felt my heart begin to ache. Watching my father praise my siblings. Watching him give them the attention I've always wanted growing up.. What did I do wrong?
I held back tears and rushed to my room. and slammed the door behind me. I leaned against my door as I ran my hands through my hair
I can't cry.. I can't cry. Men don't cry.
Men do not cry..Tears rolled down my cheek as I slid down the door and hugged my knees. I did everything to impress him and he's so unhappy with me. I got good grades. I keep my room clean. What is so wrong with me? What makes me so different that I should be treated differently..
I want to spend time with him like Elizabeth and Evan. It hurts to see them happy. To see my father always giving the love I never received from him. What about me father?
