No matter how many times I came to this place, it was still mysterious.

Countless stars glimmered all around me as I hovered over in space. Comets and meteors moved along and cosmic dust formed interesting shapes. However, I knew I wasn’t in outer space. As they have said, this was the space between spaces.

“You’ve come”, a voice said.

I turned around and saw a person with long white hair who was wearing a white outfit. Their eyes clearly showed that they weren’t human since they had kaleidoscope-like colors that would make anyone think that there was another universe inside each of them.

“Countless millennia have I observed this universe and beyond. I have seen billions of creatures being born and millions of worlds getting destroyed. And in all of those, I wonder out of all the things that are perfect, you humans are persistent despite being the weakest life forms”, they said.

“That’s simply how humans are. In the face of adversity, we just stand up over and over again. Because we are weak, we learned to adapt and survive. Because we have nothing to lose but our pride, we continue fighting”, I replied.

“And are you saying that is the reason why you are still fighting? No matter how many trials and tribulations come to your path, you continue saving those people despite receiving no benefits in return? Just because you are a human?”

My phone vibrated and when I checked it, there was a notification from that application. A picture of a girl popped up after I clicked it and I memorized the face of my next target.

Ever since I got this application, my life has been in shambles. Risking my life for people I don’t know just because I wanted to do it. And why did I want it? Why couldn’t I just ignore this application and continue on living my life without any danger?

“Life is a shitty game. No tutorials, no walkthroughs, no save point, no easy mode, no retries, and no right playstyle. Everything’s a mess since it’s impossible to find the optimal way of clearing this game”, I said.

“If you know that much, then why are you still playing?” they asked.

“It’s because it’s a game. It’s a special kind of a multiplayer game filled with problems caused by other players. Every single player is unreadable and unpredictable. Just when you thought you figured them out, they would make you question your assessment. When you thought you had everything under control, a wildcard will come and mess things up.”

I looked at the white-haired observer and saw that their emotionless eyes were analyzing me. No matter how many times I saw them, I couldn’t help but feel unnerved by their presence. Out of all the people I met, they were simply incomprehensible.

“But it’s exactly because of that that I enjoy playing this game. Despite this game of life being filled with conflicts, it couldn’t be completed without other players. Winning all alone in a single-player game is not as fun compared to losing with your friends in a multiplayer one.”

A door appeared behind me which signaled that my time here was almost over. The moment I step out of that door, I would return to that game and proceed to conquering my next target.

However, that didn’t stop me. It didn’t even make me think twice as I opened the door. But before I went out, I looked back at the white-haired person who was just standing there and observing me.

“And it’s my pride as a gamer to never back down from fun games.”

Having said that, I entered the door and light consumed me.

"I can never understand how this ‘game’ and its ‘players’ work”, the white-haired person said before my vision became black.

Then that simply means they have to just observe more. I didn’t really care about their analysis. All I had to do was to do what I wanted to do.

Now then, game start!
