I let out a tear realizing Kendall was the only person I had now, and I didn't even know if he wanted to have me.

Kendall put his hands above his head to protect the back of his head from being hit. Deep down I knew if my father wanted to shoot Kendall in the head, he would find a way.

As he realized my father was busy reloading bullets, Kendall discreetly reached into a holster I didn't notice before, and flung himself around shooting my dad 3 times.

My father groaned in pain, as he reached for the gun that he has dropped, when he fell to the floor.

"Close your eyes, baby," Kendall whispered sweetly.

I did. Something about Kendall made me trust him. Maybe it was the fact I had no choice, but I did trust him, even before that.

My father, who I could only imagine was dying, struggled to speak to Kendall, "I-I trusted you J-Jamie. I tru-usted you. Y-you we're nev-ever supposed to me-et the biggest mistake of my li..."

Before my father could finish his final thoughts, a sharp, loud noise ripped through the air, a gunshot.

It wasn't the fact that he had only seconds left to live, that hurt so much; as the fact that I knew I was the biggest mistake of his life.

The last sound I ever heard come out of my crappy father was his desperate gasp for oxygen.

I opened my eyes and started to turn around, "Baby, don't look at that. Please close your eyes, sweetheart."

Listening to Kendall's pleas, I closed my eyes tightly.

Kendall picked me up on his right side, and whispered, "Whatever you do don't hold onto my left shoulder. Jaq, Please keep your eyes closed and wrap your legs around me so I can carry u better."

I did exactly as he said.

"Good job baby girl," he mumbled praising me. "We do have to go to the hospital... very, very quickly."

I nodded. I was too in shock to talk too much. My whole life just changed in one day.

I'm still kind of in shock that Kendall was shot twice and was almost effortlessly carrying me. Besides his pained grunts here and there, also the huge blood stains soaking his clothes, you wouldn't have ever guessed what just happened.

As we exit the "location" as Kendall called it, he demanded to the people to clean up his mess and said he'd explain but we needed to go.

Before I know it we are back at my car, and Kendall spoke for the first time in what feels like forever, probably only a few minutes, "Baby girl, I need you to drive us to a hospital can you do that?"

I opened my eyes and nodded. Even under the circumstances he was a total gentleman. He opened the driver's side door for me then buckled me in. Once he shut my door he ran over and got in the passenger seat.

He reached into his pocket and silently handed me the keys to put in the ignition.

I started driving out of the woods and to the main road. Once I got there I knew it would be easy to find a hospital.

The silence was broken when Kendall asked, "Hey doll face, are you okay? I know that was totally crazy but will you be okay?"

I couldn't even bring myself to answer. I just stared in a daze at the road ahead of me, as I choked out a sob I was trying so desperately to hold in.

Then like a ton of bricks it hit me... Where am I going to live? How can I get a job and still go to school? How will I find any money to take care of myself? I need to keep my house, but how can I possibly afford it? An endless stream of worry engulfed my thoughts.

As if Kendall could sense it, he put his left hand on my thigh, to comfort me. He winced as he did so, which is totally understandable, because he was just shot in that shoulder, not once, but twice.

I didn't even I realize I pulled into a parking spot at a hospital, let alone notice Kendall open my door, until I felt him grab my hand with the opposite arm.

It was all a blur as we rushed into the hospital. I just saw my mom. I couldn't really focus on anything, other than the fact that I just watched both my parents die in front of me.

Don't get me wrong it freaked me out that my dad tried to kill me, and in the process of that shot Kendall, but to see my mom in the state she was hurt more than anyone will ever understand.

We wind up in a waiting room after Kendall checks us in. The doctor needed to take him in for surgery to remove the bullets.

Before they took Kendall, he softly spoke to me, "Baby," I looked over to the man who put his life on the line for me, "I'll see you after Jaq. Yeah?"

"Mhm. I'll be waiting for you," I answered back.

"Jacqueline Michaels," a doctor called.

"I'll see you later, babe," Kendall whispered, as he kissed my forehead, before I walked over to the doctor who called my name.

When I reached her, I quickly glanced back to get a reassuraning smile from Kendall but he was gone, and I saw the immediate surgery door swing shut.

I took a deep breath and looked at the nurse. "Hey Jacqueline! I'm Ashley. I'll be taking care of you," she smiled brightly at me, as if it would make everything better.

"Hi," I could barely manage a whisper back.

Everything whirled around me as they checked me out and asked me questions. I was desperately needing to see Kendall to make sure he was okay.

I was sitting in the waiting room,  after Ashley checked me out, and cleared me.

After what felt like forever, "Jackie?" I stood up and walked towards the man who called my name, "Kendall is asking to see you. If you would follow me..."

After a couple minutes of following the doctor in silence, he spoke, "He's in here, if you need anything there will be nurses throughout the hallway, and let anyone know."

"Thank you sir," I nodded in appreciation.

I took one last deep breath and opened the door to the room Kendall was in.

I shut the door behind me. Crap! I forgot to knock. "Hey baby girl. Are you okay?"
