A soft tap tap tap alerted Charlotte that she was waking up. Her head felt fuzzy and heavy, like something was holding her head down, and her eyes wouldn't open for the life of her. The first thing Charlotte smelled was the musty air of someplace that hadn't been cleaned in such a long time. It permeated through the air, forcing its way through her nose like a hard wind in the middle of winter. Her stomach rolled, ready to push everything that she had eaten recently up out of her mouth. She had to lay on the ground for a few minutes before she could move without the possibility of throwing everything up on herself. Plus, she could hardly move anyway, so it didn't matter if she could move or not.
When Charlotte opened her eyes as she finally sat up, the bright lights in the high ceiling above her blinded her after not seeing anything for however long she had been unconscious. A dizzy spell hit her as she dug the heels of her hands into her crusty eyes, trying to get the stars to stop floating around and around, forcing her to not be able to see much of anything. Everything was way too bright to be outside since the last time she was out there, it was nighttime, so she knew she was trapped somewhere inside a building or something like that. Charlotte kept blinking and blinking so she could see where she was trapped, and it definitely surprised her when she saw what, or lack thereof, was in this place, too.
There wasn't much of anything around her. The only thing that was in this warehouse was the cell that she was trapped in. The cell must have been the source of the soft tapping noise she first heard a while ago, and she glanced up to see the door moving in the drafty warehouse. Though, she couldn't see everything as this warehouse was much bigger than she had expected. Still, this place was absolutely empty besides the cell she was stuck in. The metal cell wasn't that big, just a few feet wide and long, giving her enough room to lay down on the ground without scrunching up her legs. It reminded her of a dog's cage, her anger pushing the fuzziness out of her head.
A cool breeze suddenly blew through the warehouse as a door opened across the large expanse of empty space. The door to her cell moved in the wind, filling the large space with its soft tapping noises. She could see fresh morning sunlight filter through the open door, but it quickly fell away as the door slammed shut, the loud thud echoing around the empty warehouse. Whoever was here had to be one of the people who kidnapped her. She was ready to fight to save herself if they opened the cell door, though she highly doubted that they would. She knew that the person working for Seymour Butts wanted to draw Captain Man out, which meant that she had to stay there for however long it took Ray to get enough courage to leave the Man Cave.
The person dragged a small cart or table behind them as they walked toward Charlotte. It was way too bright for her to be able to tell who was walking toward her, but they were extremely tall, taller than most people she knew. Her eyes were crusted shut slightly, so she rubbed at her eyes, trying to dispel it. She cursed under her breath when her gaze was still fuzzy from the kidnapping. Something felt almost familiar about this giant person, but her brain was still struggling a little bit because she had been unconscious for what felt like forever.
"Dr. Minyak!" Charlotte exclaimed when she saw him approaching. She wasn't sure why he was here. His tall frame created long dark shadows under the bright lights. His usual sidekick, Nurse Cohort, wasn't by his side this time, which was even weirder. It seemed like he was the only person besides Charlotte in this whole warehouse. Why did he not have anyone else helping him? Charlotte struggled to speak, but she managed to get out, "Where's Seymour Butts? And Nurse Cohort? And where are the goonies that kidnapped me?"
"Nurse Cohort is on vacation," Minyak said, sounding so . . . sad. There was something strange in his voice as his eyes grew a longing look after talking about Nurse Cohort. Charlotte frowned when he leaned against the cage she was in, letting out the most heartbreaking sigh she had ever heard in her entire life. He seemed to be lost in his own thoughts as he lamented to her about his heartbreak. "I'm not sure when she's coming back. If she's ever coming back. She just kind of left one day and hasn't ever contacted me. I just say she's on vacation because --"
