Enzo was doing his normal rounds when Esmeralda came running down the hall from behind him. She skidded a little and nearly crashed into an unoccupied gurney in the hall,
"Jesus! There's no fire, Esmeralda," Enzo laughed before frowning at seeing her worried expression. "Okay, what happened?"
"Uhm, Alex Schmidt has been brought in."
"What?! What happened?"
"It looked like someone stabbed him and roughed him quite a bit."
"Where is he?" Enzo ran down the hall in the direction the nurse came from.
"Uh, Belinda told me they're taking him to the ER. She wanted to know if you handle his case? She's has a lot more patients and can't deal with another."
"What about Dr. Rizvi?"
"He hasn't come in yet."
"Alright, I'll do Alex's stitches and whatever," Enzo ran into the swinging doors leading to the ER. He washed in and ran into the operating room. He stuttered to a stop before the operating table. He looked at Alex with fear. He liked the calmness on the other's face but then remembered why they were there.

Meanwhile, in front of the hospital, Nick and Caspian were sitting on the bench and waiting for Oliver and George to arrive. Nick had called Caspian on the way to the hospital in the ambulance. George had gone to pick up Oliver from work.
"We said one of you would end up in the hospital but did any of you listen? No, you did not! This is what happens when you don't fucking listen to us! Listen to us from now Hijo de puta!" Caspian was yelling at Nick when Oliver and George got to the hospital.
"Okay, relax now. Alex is inside beat up and most likely in surgery. So forget this for now. When we see Alex, we can talk about this shit. Now let's go see if we can find either Nick's mom or Enzo." Oliver pulled Nick into the hospital.
"Wait, Enzo works here? Since fucking when?"
"If Celestino was telling the truth, he had an internship in high school. Then in freshman year of college, Enzo got a part-time doctoring thing, This year, he's a full-time part-time doctor. He's actually on shift right now."
"Let's go find him! Oh hello, Esmerelda!"
"Haha hi, Caspian. Alex is in surgery." Esmeralda nodded at the boys.
"It's okay, mom. We can wait here until he's out." Nick pulled the nervous wreck that was Caspian to the waiting room. They noticed Alex's mother sitting in the corner.
"Poor woman doesn't even know what her husband has been putting their son through," Oliver whispered as they walked toward her.
"Of all the people we can't tell, she's the worst case. Always so kind, lets us stay the night when we don't want to go home," Nick muttered.
"And she's protective and a great mother figure," George added.
"Fuck, what do we tell her?" Caspian looked around at his friends just before they stood in front of her. Nick, Oliver, and George looked at him silently asking if he could handle it. "Mrs. Schmidt?"
"Oh boys, need I remind you every time? Call me Irina."
"Mrs-- I mean Irina, I'm sorry." Caspian sat next to her.
"You shouldn't have to apologize. You're not the one who beat up my son and landed him in the hospital." Irina brought Caspian into a hug so she didn't see Nick and George giving her a sad look.
"Uhm, boys," Enzo's voice spoke up from behind them. When everyone looked at him, they noticed that there was blood on his scrubs and his bloodied gloves were wiping themselves on the sides of his pants.
"Enzo? Have you seen Alex?" Caspian stood up and brought Mrs. Schmidt with him to the young doctor.
"Uh yeah, I have. He's fine now. He lost a bit of blood. We luckily had blood on hand so there was no delay in giving him more. His wrist has been sprained and his right ankle is swollen around a hairline fracture. Normally only his immediate family is allowed to check on him but since I know how close you boys are to him, he's in room 108." Enzo stated and walked off to take his gloves off.
"He really does work here," George said out loud.
"I did not see that coming," Nick gaped at the spot where Enzo had been standing a minute ago.
"I'm going to update Alex's father and siblings. You boys go visit Alex before someone else not as nice as that boy make you leave." And with that Irina went outside the hospital to update her family.
"Come on boys, you heard her," George started walking toward Alex's hospital room. When the four friends made it to Alex's room, they immediately noticed that he was in a room by himself.
"Oh wow. Enzo seriously put him in his own room," Oliver commented.
"He's too good a person to be real." Caspian gave a small smile before sitting one of the uncomfortable chairs near Alex's bed.
"Oh god, he looks so peaceful," Nick hid his face so the others couldn't see the tears threatening to fall down his face.
"You guys need anything," Enzo asked, popping up in front of the room door.
"No. If we need anything, we'll ask Nick's mum." George grit out. Enzo frowned and nodded slightly.
"Alright. He'll wake up soon."
"Why is he in his own room?" Oliver asked from the windowsill seat.
"I figured he would hate for anyone to see him like that. It's bad enough I was the doctor who stitched up this stubborn asshole."
"Thank you, Enzo, for all of this," Caspian ran to the Italian and hugged him.
"Of course, Caspian. I wouldn't leave him to die." Enzo hugged him back. "Alright, if you need anything, just ask me. I have other patients to take care of." Enzo walked out of the room and down the hall.
************
"Asshole! You're cheating," Nick jumped off the chair in anger.
"No, I'm not! You just suck at this," Alex laughed. Caspian grumbled in his sleep so Alex moved Cas's head more onto his chest.
"You both are idiots!" Oliver chuckled from his spot on the windowsill seat.
"It's not my fault that I'm way better at Snap that Nick is!"Alex cackled as he gathered the playing cards together. Nick grumbled under his breath before holding out his hand for the cards. He shuffled them and gave half to Alex, who cackled before slamming a Queen of Spades down on the bed. George rolled his eyes and went back to reading a book for English.
It was a pretty quiet day for the five college students. It was three days after Alex got his stitches and his leg was doing somewhat better but Enzo (and Esmeralda) wanted to keep him for a few days afterward to keep a watchful eye in case anything went wrong. Luckily, nothing was wrong so Alex was going to be released from the hospital. The only problem was one to do with school and how much Alex missed while stuck in a hospital bed. Plus, he wouldn't be able to play for a few weeks.
"Sup assholes, Oliver, and a sleeping Caspian," Enzo announced his arrival quietly so he didn't wake Caspian.
"Sup doc. Is he being released today?" Oliver asked.
"Yeah in an hour. One of you is going to sign the paperwork. His mom isn't here yet."
"Can't I just sign myself out?"
"If you want to," Enzo shrugged and handed a packet of papers to Alex.
"Uhh on second thought, George you can fill it out." Alex put on George's lap.
"What type of papers are these? Rocks? No, Nick, you fill them out." George placed them between Nick's arms.
"What is this? Hot Potato with Alex's release papers?" Oliver grabbed the papers and snatched the pen out of the laughing Enzo's shaking hands.
"I could've done it!" Nick exclaimed, looking up from the card game.
"Yeah yeah. Sure whatever." Oliver waved his free hand in the air dismissively.
"I'll be back in a few minutes to grab those back. Schmidt, Esmeralda brought you clothes this morning. I put them on the table next to you." With that said, Enzo left the room.
"Oh, shit the camping trip is next week. What are we supposed to do about this?" Alex pointed out.
"I think you'll be allowed to still go. Considering its just minor injuries." George commented.
"Plus Marinelli is going to be watching over you like a hawk."
"Can't wait to see Alex try to keep Enzo from freaking out every time he moves," Caspian mumbled groggily.
"Aww sleeping beauty is awake," George said in a baby voice.
"Georgie boy, shut up," Caspian tried to sound grumpy.
"He wants to be mad but he looks like a puppy!" Nick laughed. Caspian huffed and hid his face in Alex's arms.
"Come on, little puppy. Nick meant it as a compliment."
"I'm not stupid, Alex! I know that wasn't a compliment. Caspian slapped Alex's arms.
"Am I interrupting anything," Esmeralda said from the door. Nick looked up at his mother and shook his head.
"Nah ma, you're fine," Nick stood up and went to hug his mom.
"Alex, baby, how are you feeling?" Esmeralda pushed past her son and went to the side of Alex's bed.
"Esme, I'm fine. Just a little banged up but I'll be fine." Alex pat Esmeralda's arm.
"Yeah ignore me," Nick grumbled as he sat back down.
"Oh I will," Esmeralda joked causing the boys to all laugh. "By the way, that Enzo kid you guys are always complaining about is actually very sweet. Don't hurt him. He's a precious bean."
"He ain't that precious, Esme," George scoffed.
"Oi! He's the reason that Alex is healing perfectly great in that bed. Cut the guy some slack."
"Ugh fine! We'll cut him slack!" Alex fell back onto the pillows.
"Not that much though! He's still an asshole!" Nick added. Esmeralda rolled her eyes at the trio. Oliver and Caspian looked completely over their friends' antics.
"Alright, well I have to get back to work but, you boys are welcome to crash at my house tonight if you would like," and Esmeralda left the room.
"I just want to be released from this hellish place!" Alex moaned. A chuckle came from Oliver.
"I think I speak for everyone in this room when I say I can't wait for you to be discharged. Speaking of which, I've finished filling them out."
"Oh look, there are crutches there," Caspian pointed to the side of Alex's bed.
"I don't remember my mom bringing those in," Nick said.
"Which means- shit, Marinelli brought them?" George looked gobsmacked. Oliver and Caspian looked at each other knowingly.
"Oh wow, the doctor brought crutches for Alex to use. How surprising!" Oliver said sarcastically. Caspian and Alex had to stifle their laughter.
"Let's just get out of here," Alex said.
"Yeah, let's go."
************
A week later, Alex was still healing but he was doing a lot better. So much so that Caspian's mother let him still come on the trip with the class.
"If anything happens there, just call me and I'll do something about it. Now I don't mean if something happens between you and Enzo. I mean an actual medical emergency."
"If there's a medical emergency, I'm sure Enzo will take care of it," Caspian told his mother.
"How would Enzo help with that?"
"He's a fucking doctor apparently," Alex muttered angrily.
"Okay. One, language young man and two, that is one less thing you need to worry about. Just go to Enzo Marinelli when you need help."
"Ugh! Why is everyone on his side?"
"Because he's a good guy?"
"Because he helped patch you up," Oliver offered.
"I don't give two shits about that asshole!" Alex yelled.
"Language!"
"You know what, screw it! I'll go to Marinelli if there is a medical problem! Are you people happy?"
"Very," Oliver sighed as he fell against the wall.
"Now that we've convinced you of that, let's eat dinner," Caspian pulled his friends to the dining table.
"Ugh, I can't believe I agreed to that!"
"Suffer!"
"Go die in a ditch!"
"That is my son!"
************
"Let me just explain one thing to you, three idiots! You are not to fucking annoy Enzo and his friends. They are nice people so leave them alone!" Oliver said pointedly at Alex, Nick, and George. Caspian was going through everyone's gym bags to make sure they all had everything.
"Yes, dad, we get it. Attempt to act like you abnormal humans," Nick joked. A can came flying at Nick's head from the direction of the bags.
"Cas, come on man! I thought you trusted us!" Alex argued with the Spaniard.
"I trust you guys about a lot of things but this shit? There is no way in hell, you guys can actually manage to pack the right things."
"Can we just get a move on? I'd like to get there before I turn 75 years old." George groaned from the stairs.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah! Don't get your diapers in a twist." Oliver waved his hand around. Caspian gave the last approval and they were out of the front door. Caspian's mom gave them the directions to the campsite so they could skip the bus trip down there.
"Whose car are we taking?"
"Well, we can take all of them. Alex is driving with me though." Nick exclaimed as he brought Alex outside the Beckett house.
"I still think it's a bad idea for Enzo to be in charge of me," Alex groaned.
"Normally I'd argue alongside you but, in this case, we should put a minimal amount of faith in Marinelli," Nick said, getting into the driver's seat.
6 hours later, the friends had arrived at the campsite and sat on George's car hood, waiting for the rest of their class to arrive on the buses. A few minutes later, a Jeep pulled into the parking lot and Enzo and Jasper came out.
"Why can't we just have some more time of quiet before the drama comes," Oliver asked, looking up at the sky like it'll give him the answer. Unfortunately, there was no answer to his question so Oliver groaned and watched his friends for their reactions.
"Ah," was all Enzo said before turning back towards his Jeep.
"No no no! Stay Enzo. There's no need to leave just to come back in like 30 minutes. Where would you two even go?" Caspian looked between Enzo and Jasper.
"Well there was this great burger place 10 miles back so we can go there and then when everyone else is here, we'll come back," Jasper answered. He looked over at Enzo for confirmation.
"What? Oh yeah. We'll go there. Okay bye!" Enzo ran back to his car. Alex rolled his eyes but kept quiet and ate a grape.
"Nope! Not happening!" Caspian jumped off the car and rushed to stop Enzo from getting inside his car. "You're already here. You two might as well stay. In fact, Enzo, you can tell us all about how you came up with the plan to be a doctor." Caspian looked behind him at his friends as if to dare them to disagree with him.
"Alright, you win, " Enzo sighed and closed his car door. On the side, Jasper smirks, closes the passenger side door but, luckily, doesn't say anything about how Enzo is going soft about listening to other people. He shares a look with Oliver, who sees the other three look at Enzo with distrust.
"Honestly, this is really annoying. They need to get over the alpha male mentality. Enzo is like a harmless Golden Retriever puppy, " Oliver thought to himself.
"We are in for a long week with these idiots all trying to be macho," Jasper whispered when he got to George's car. Oliver nodded in agreement when he noticed how Alex and Enzo were glaring at each other.
It took another hour before the buses full of students arrived. In that time, Oliver and Jasper had struck up a conversation with each other about their majors in Astronomy and Culinary respectively. George and Nick were watching them talk in complete wonder but that didn't last long when a paper ball hit Nick on the back of the head. Nick turned and saw Giovanni smirking and hiding something behind his back. Luckily, Caspian saw Laurent before Nick could make a stupid remark and cause a scene.
"Rem, come over here! Bring the other members of your friend group," Caspian called over. Laurent brought Giovanni over kicking and screaming while Celestino looked at George, Alex, and Nick with cautious eyes.
"How long have you two been here," Giovanni asked Enzo and Jasper, trying to ignore the presence of the unliked trio.
"Only an hour or so. Not too long." Enzo answered when it became obvious that Jasper wasn't going to stop talking to Oliver about college.
"Alright listen up! I already have the cabin assignments. I already know some of you are going to hate me for this but it had to be done. Being with your friends would distract you from the whole purpose of this trip." Caspian's mother yelled as soon as the buses disappeared from sight and everyone had had the chance to stretch their legs from the long ride over. She was, in particular, worried about the reaction from the princes of the college when they learnt about their fate with cabin arrangements.
"What are the arrangements, ma'am," asked Celestino. She sighed and started going done the list of names and cabin numbers. Then, came the difficult arrangements that were already in line as the ones she regretted the most.
"Cabin 16 is Celestino Evans, George Beckett, and Oliver Turner. Cabin 17 is Jasper Miller, Laurent Andrieux, and Caspian Carter. Lastly, Cabin 18 is Nicholas Shruff, Giovanni D'Angelo, Alex Schmidt, and Lorenzo Marinelli."
The entire student body there went silent as they let the news soak in and looked over at the shocked faces of the 10 people. After a few seconds, she was met with the loud disagreement from the kids.
"Mom, you can't do this! They're going to kill each other!"
"Mrs. Carter! Don't put us together!"
"This is a terrible idea, Mrs. Carter!"
"Look, it's my final decision! Now everyone, go settle down in your cabins."
"Unbelievable," George threw his hands up in the air but went up the hill to where the cabins were residing.
"This ought to be a fun week," Laurent whispered to Caspian.
************
That night, everyone was circled around a campfire and the teachers were telling stories. Caspian decided that it wasn't for him and walked away to the edge of the woods. He saw there was a figure by the lake, so he went over there.
"You know, you're really not that quiet, Cas," Laurent chuckled.
"I can be a ninja when I want to be, Laurent."
"So what are you doing here? I thought you'd want to be with your friends."
"Nah. I needed a break from them plotting a way to get the teachers to change the cabin arrangements. Apparently Alex hates that Ma- I mean Enzo is a clean freak."
"Oh yeah. He shares a room with Jasper so he has to clean up. I guess it just stuck with him."
"I have a question about Enzo actually."
"Shoot."
"Has he always wanted to be a doctor?"
"Since he was 15 and saved Giovanni from dying."
"What happened?"
"They didn't tell us the full story but what they did tell us is that someone tried to kill Gio in 10th grade during a nature trip. Enzo had come at the perfect time to see the person running away and Giovanni not breathing. Enzo rushed over and called 911 while also trying to save his best friend."
"Damn. That must have been rough. They still don't know who it was?"
"No. Giovanni conveniently forgot who it was."
"I bet you it was George, Alex, or Nick."
"I've put my money on Nick. The guy seriously has it out for Gio. The two are almost as bad as Alex and Enzo when it comes to their hormones."
"We should head back to keep them from killing each other on the first night."
"Probably but, it's just so peaceful here."
"Mhmm. I think I'm going to move somewhere like this." Caspian sighed and put a hand around Laurent's shoulders. He expected Laurent to politely move his arm away and leave but the Frenchman did the opposite. Laurent looked at Caspian and smiled before going in for a kiss. What felt like 5 minutes later, they separated and Laurent looked guilty and tried to move away.
"I'm s-s-sorry. I-I sh-shouldn't have done that. I'll just leave. Sorry again, Cas." Laurent moved Caspian's arm and started walking backwards. The Spaniard rolled his eyes and pulled him back.
"I'm not complaining. In fact I'm just a bit mad. And before you say anything, it's not at you. I wish I had the balls to make the first move."
"You can propose first," Laurent joked. He smiled when it got a small laugh from Caspian.
"Thank you, mi amor."
"I like it when you speak Spanish."
"I would say I like it when you speak French but I haven't heard you say anything."
"I may be French but that doesn't mean I know many words. My parents moved me out of France when I was a few months old."
"Poor baby," Caspian teased his boyfriend.
"Mhm." Laurent pouted and got a kiss on the corner of his mouth for his troubles.
"We'll honeymoon in France."
"So kind of you, mon chéri." Laurent chuckled and kissed Caspian's jaw line.
"Oh shit, that was hot." Caspian moaned and tilted his head to let Laurent have more access.
"Haha I'll have my mother teach me more words if that's the reaction I get."
"Let's go back before someone notices we're missing and our dumbass friends get into it blaming each other."
"Yeah, let's go back." They walked back hand in hand.
"You realize you're going to have to tell me the reason for the nickname, right?"
"One day, chéri. One day."
