Duty.

Duty is responsibility.
It is honour and initiative,
Obligation and excellence.
It is striving to be the most expensive version of yourself.

Duty is love,
It is holding the pieces together, even if they pierce your fingers and paint them red.
Duty is compassion, it is sincerity,
It is consuming yourself, to light the way for another.

Duty is maturity.
It is selflessness and sacrifice,
Resilience and strength.
It is letting go of your inner child a little too soon.....
And growing up too fast.

Feeling too young and helpless,
Too fragile and too frail,
Lost in the middle of a neverending sea with no land to call home.

Duty is painful,
It is suffocating and destructive,
An infinite burden too heavy to bear.
It's questioning yourself at every crossroad,
tossing and turning in a fitful sleep,
Ripping out the pages of every textbook just to find the answer.

Asking yourself,
"Am i doing this right?"

Duty is faith.
It is turning experience into example,
Pain into power.
It is knowledge and wisdom,
Passion and will,
It is blooming through the six feet of dirt you're buried under.

Trusting yourself to make the right decisions,
Dusting yourself off after a bad fall,
Brushing away the tears after a breakdown.

It is forgiveness and reassurance,
Discovery and grace,
It is healing and learning,
Taking a step back, when life calls for it.

Reflecting.
Setting your own pace and taking up space.
Appreciating your littlest flaws and finery,
Because before anything else,
Duty, is loving yourself.
