In Verveling School...
Lily
"Lily Freude, the principal would like to speak to you for a moment."
I turned around to see the principal's assistant staring at me with a grim look on her face. I was confused. I hadn't even done any pranks this week, how was I in trouble?
I heard snickering behind me and people whispering. The whispering was like a thousand needles poking into my ears, and I felt my face burn up.
"Yes, Doctor Ja."
I slipped out of my seat as my feet quietly thudded on the ground. I picked my backpack up and heaved it over my shoulders.
My friend Aptal whispered to me, "Hope you don't get into trouble for the chicken thing last week!"
"Idiot! If they had really caught us, we all would have been called there!", Scian, my other friend murmured.
"Oh! My bad!"
I smiled at their interaction, then quickly walked to Doctor Ja. She closed the door with a thud and walked me though the winding mazes of corridors and doors to the principal's office.
As Doctor Ja opened the door, I was hit with the comforting smell of cinnamon and incense. The room was so familiar, the couches so soft-looking, the hardwood tables so smooth.
But what was different was the principal's face of regret. What was also different was the crouched-up figure of my mother, curled up in the corner, held by an awkward looking woman, sobbing.
