In Helena's Home for Medical Affairs
Lily
We stared at each other for a second. If I were to describe her in this moment, she looked like a puddle of sad-looking slime that had gotten bad through delivery.
But as the second passed, her sadness seemed to disappear a bit and her puddle-self coagulated a little bit. She rushed up to my hospital be and held my hand in hers. Looking down, I realised there was an IV injected there.
"You're safe... I was so worried back there, everyone was panicking, I thought you died, just like he did-"
She broke out into a flurry of weak sobs. I, however did feel dead. Dead inside. Like a piece of a mental heart had been ripped out from my body. I felt... nothing. Absolutely nothing. Despite the literal heart-stopping emotions earlier, I felt empty.
"I'm just glad that you're here," she said.
I nodded and forced a small smile to my mouth.
She sat on this little chair on my bedside and passed me a sheet of paper silently.
I opened it to discover a medical report that detailed my father's death. Beneath it there was a medal that said "In Loving Memory of Chadd Freud". At that moment, I felt sick. A stupid medal didn't account for the loss of him. A stupid president's signature wasn't worth him. I wanted him back. I was about to throw the picture on the ground, when I realised something. At the bottom of the page, there was a slight inclination of the page.
"Mum, why was something cut out?", I inquired as I indicated to the spot.
She replied sadly, "Oh, honey there was an extremely depressing photo of Chadd in the scene of the death, and I didn't want that to affect you, so I cut it out."
I nodded, but was in confusion. In her emotional capacity, she shouldn't be able to do anything of the sort. But she must have thought about me and not wanting to put me in such a state again.
Just as I was about to say something else, a loud buzzer sounded and knocked the words right out of my mouth. The 2 nurses came in as me and my mother stared at them is confusion.
Weird Dude said, "Sorry to break up the chit-chat guys, but two people named Scian and Aptal are demanding to meet Lily. I mean, the Scian girl nearly murdered the receptionist!"
Nice Lady shot a glare to Weird Dude. "Lily Freude, do you know these people and allow them to enter this room?"
I smiled and nodded. The visit from them would be much less depressing than my mum's visit.
"Alrighty then, Ms. Freude, you have to leave then!", Weird Dude chirped.
"Fine, fine," my mum said, annoyed. I was confused. Where did that sass come from?
She sat up and rigidly walked through the door.
A few minutes later, I was thinking about my life when there was a sudden bang and my eyes snapped open. Before I could register anything, 2 figures suddenly pulled me into a tight hug that left me wheezing for air.
When I was finally released, I was still panting for air and looked up to see my two best friends, Aptal and Scian, crying.
I awkwardly said, "Hi, guys...?"
And I was choked again.
