After raiding my secret cabinet under the kitchen sink for the birthday supplies that I stashed, I put everything in place as I slowly prepare the cake.

•3 Tablespoons powdered sugar
•1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

(This was off a website, I wish I knew how to make this ;-;)

I huff out and wipe my forehead of the left over flour and smile at my homemade cake.

'moms gonna love it so much! I can't wait till tonight, now all we have to do is place it in the fridge and let it get cold while we wait for dad and Jace to get home'

After putting the cake in the fridge I cleaned up the kitchen and washed my hands thoroughly and dried them off as I made my way to the stairs, each creaky footstep up the stairs let's the whole house know of my presence and I cringe at the last exaggerated step at the top of the stairs before walking to the first door to my left, my mom and dad's bedroom door.

I knock quietly three times and wait for an answer, but it's silent inside so I knock a bit louder and finally get a response. "Yes?" Mom responded in a hoarse voice from somewhere inside, telling me she's might have been crying at the moment or maybe since we've been home.

'I hope she's okay, i hate when she cries it makes me get knots in my stomach'

I push the door open slowly and walk in cautiously, waiting to see where mom lays this time. The last time I walked into mom crying I heard the noise from the shower and she was a weeping mess on the hard shower floor that I had to help her get out, get dried and dressed back into bed.

"Mom? Where are you?" I ask looking around their large room and glancing over their grey queen size bed and taking a seat at the edge.

"What are you doing? Is something wrong honey?" Mom's voice got closer as I stood and walked over to her.

Her form looked frail in her lavender colored bathrobe and I'll admit without her dresses and all the layers she usually wears around the house she looked sick and I knew why and I hated it. She shouldn't be worried about my testing so much it's slowly making her get physically sick and it's taken a toll on her already.

"Mum what's wrong? Are you okay?" I ask and hug her before she runs off into the bathroom now that I know she wasn't okay.

"Oh, I'm fine deary. Did you need something? Are your father and brother home yet? What about june, is she home yet?" My mom asks and I pull back ready to answer, but that last part confused me.

"No they aren't home yet....mom who's june?" I look into her eyes and notice that they're glossed over as she blinks rapidly and looks around the room confused.

"Oh honey! When did you get here? Oh look at me, I've forgotten to get changed again well no worries" mom pushes past me and heads over the cluttered drawers by the bed opposite to the bedroom door and starts going through her underwear, tossing them behind her to the floor in disapproval.

"When was the last time we went into the city for shopping dearie?" Mom asked while still looking through her drawer.

'shopping in the city? We've never shopped in the city before'
