Prologue

Stories are fickle things. They can be changed so quickly. Take mermaids for example in some stories they are terrible creatures who lure innocent sailors to their deaths and in others, they are beautiful ladies who help save sailors who are drowning. It is all part of the same story but it is so different that they are often not considered the same.

Every story is like this and the rise of technology has made the change of stories happen faster and in more diverse and interesting ways. My story is no different from any other story. It has many versions. Roberts's performance may be different from mine. My story stemmed from a very special place.

There are few things worse than death. In many cultures, death can go two ways one gain eternal bliss or eternal pain. Death was always a mystery to human culture. We did not know for sure what happens after death. For many, the uncertainty was petrifying and for others, the uncertainty was a taste of home. It was never discovered so humans often tried to find ways to cheat death. To escape its clutches.

There was once a unique pool. It had many names. "Decades de Orbe Nova" as the Greeks called it or "Aqua de Vida" as the Spanish called it but you may know it by its most common name "The Fountain of Youth". It was discovered by the Spanish explorer and conquistador the name of Juan Ponce de León. Since then, its fame has only increased. This was a way for the human race to escape the cold clutches of death. Many sought it but lived to tell the tale.

Names can be misleading. Eternal life is not the only thing that the fountain has the power to grant. True it will give you everlasting life but everything comes with a price and eternal life is no different. The price was always set in stone. To gain eternal life you had to sacrifice that which you love the most. That is if you reach the fountain.
