Samuel
– What!? – I shouted at my dearest and longest friend, Oliver, who had recently let me know he employed a legal counsellor to defend him in court despite knowing I could perfectly do it.
– Quiet down Sam – He shushed me in the conspicuous British complement we both had, knowing damn well I wasn't buying it. It was uncommon for me to lose my quiet stance however when I did, you most certainly wouldn't have any desire to be there. I turned out to be excessively angry.
– You chose another lawyer instead of me – I yelled irately punching his desk, my eye jerking from fury and he sighed, the sound practically quiet by the ceaseless shaking of the table.
– You know you're not my defence attorney but the corporate's one and this accusation is directed to me not the company – He clarified, his look peering solidly as he emptied espresso into his cup written '#1 Dad'. Yes, he has a kid. Two, actually.
My temper grew at his tranquil face and I huffed, standing up. The little bitch was caught driving drunk and ended up hitting private property and damaging it, just like the booster he is.
– I still could be your attorney. Now we have to pay for that person and from what I saw it's fucking pricey – I replied peevishly prior to quieting myself down. I straightened my suit and breathed in.
– She's a good one and we both know we need a decent trial to get Mr. Gibson out of our arse – His words were accurate so I just obliged myself to nod. Still, I'm certain I am better than her.
– Now get out of my office and enjoy your day off – I feigned exacerbation and grabbed the extra mug he had on the table before taking a sip of the cold black coffee and putting it down, the taste unpleasing to my liking. I walked towards the glass door and opened it – Have a good rest of the day, booster – I turned my back to him and strode out of there so I wouldn't hear him meandering aimlessly about how the name was so immature. I called him that since we were 5 years old, what makes him think it would change.
I shook my head at his poor endeavour to catch my attention and humour made his way to my mind as I thought of his childish behaviour.
My feet halted at the entry of the lift and I made a move to check my telephone. As surprising as it sounded I didn't get any texts or long emails from people complaining about our product. He must have warned that today was my day off.
The 'ding' of the elevator took my attention and I put my phone in my pocket. When the metal door opened, familiar faces met my gaze. Usually I was a nice person to hang out with and had a good relationship with many employees but they knew when I was in a bad mood not to talk to me. My temporary distraction evaporated as soon as I saw fancy suits in front of me. Some people got out as soon as they could, while others suffered the suffocating atmosphere.
I walked in and noticed there were still some buttons where the elevator would stop by. I sighed tiredly when the thought I had to go through all these floors came to my mind.
– Hey Sam, are you okay? – I opened my eyes and glanced at the figure in front of me. There stood Zack, his face was contoured into a worried expression and his hands gripped his paperwork tightly as if he was scared of my reaction.
– Yeah, just tired – He nodded, muttering a little – That's good – And going back to his own world.
After a significant delay and multiple scared faces I got out of the elevator and walked through our parking lot to my car and turned it on. I got out of there and drove to the cafe. I really need to drink some warm coffee.
I parked my car in their small parking area and walked to the entrance. There was a huge line and the tables were all full. But I guess lucky me.
I strolled until I was toward the front of the line and pushed the person there out of my way, he ran out of here when he saw my deadly glare – What would you like, Sam? – The cashier, Jenny, asked, taking a gander at me with tired eyes. I go almost everyday here so she already knows my name.
