TRIGGER WARNING
"What Is Going On ?" yelled Abuela as she looked down at the two sisters laying down in the pile of flowers, they both immediately got up.
"Abuela! . . . It's fine . . . We're gonna save the miracle . . . The magic-" panted mirabel completely out of breath
"What are you talking about ? Look at our home look at your sister . . ."
"Please just, Isabela wasn't happy . . ." replied mirabel
"Of course, she isn't happy you ruined her proposal-"
"No, no, she needed me to ruin her proposal, then we did all this..." mirabel said pointing at the mess.
"Enough Mirabel! Stop lying. I will not have you break the house and the family."
"You have to stop Mirabel!" yelled Abuela She continued
"The cracks started with you , Bruno left because of you , Luisa's losing her powers, Isabela's engagement is ruined because of you! I don't know why you weren't given a gift but it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family"
"I am not hurting this family! Isabela didn't want to get married to Mariano in the first place, I'm-" began Mirabel, tears forming in her eyes.
Abuela scoffed, she looked at Isabela and asked "Is it true ? Did you not want to get married to Mariano ?"
Isabela stared at Mirabel then back at Abuela she lowered her gaze and said "It's not true, I was ready to marry Mariano"
Mirabel looked taken aback, Abuela looked satisfied with the answer and turned to Mirabel who was looking at Isabela in disbelief she said "Lying is never the solution. Go back to your room and don't cause any problems anymore!"
Mirabel was still staring at Isabela, who averted her gaze. Mirabel sighed and smiled bitterly.
She began walking towards her room and brushed past Isabela in the process, she whispered something in her ear which left Isabela shook.
**********
Mirabel sighed as she entered her room, she felt hollow, she didn't feel pain or sadness. Just a numbness that took over her.
It was weird, she wasn't able to feel anything, yet this was somehow a thousand times worse than having a mental breakdown.
Maybe physical pain could get her away from the numbness. The box cutter in front of her looked very tempting.
'Just one small cut' she thought.
She carefully picked up the cutter and used it to draw a single long cut on her arm. It hurt, a lot but she felt such utter bliss while doing so. Now she knew why people had become addicted to this.
This newfound relief went away and she was left with the numbness again.
She made another cut, but this time no relief came, only painful memories of feeling worthless.
She remembered the time when her and Isabela had been close, when she had acted like a real older sister and protected her.
She made another cut.
She had lost her older sister the day she didn't get a power. Now it was no longer 'hermana Isabela' now it was just 'señora perfecta Isabela' .
Everybody had high expectations from her but she had let them down.
With each painful memory the cuts got deeper and the cracks in the casita grew.
She begun feeling dizzy, the box cutter in her hand felt heavy. She dropped it.
She watched in sick fascination as the blood flowed out of her arm and stained her white top.
The house began to collapse as she was thrown out by an invisible force, her glasses fell away from her face but it didn't matter because she could she everything crystal clear.
Her eyes met with the cold, unforgiving eyes of Alma Madrigal. She smiled as she fell into an eternal darkness.
****************
The house had begun to collapse, the family members were thrown out of the house.
Julieta's eyes widened as she screamed "Mirabel is still inside!"
They all looked around and Abuela's gaze fell upon the seemingly lifeless body of Mirabel. Their eyes met for a split second before she closed them.
Augustin and Julieta immediately ran towards their daughter.
Mirabel was lying down in a pool of her own blood.
Her skin, once so full of colour had now turned pale. The moonlight falling upon her made her look even paler.
On her arm were several scars out of which blood was flowing out and staining the clothes of her mother, who was clutching to her motionless body.
Augustin whispered "Abre los ojos Mirabel. Abre los ojos."
Antonio turned to Camilo "What happened Camilo ? Why is prima Mirabel not waking up ?"
Camilo embraced Antonio and whispered "She loves sleeping. Let her sleep for a while."
He had tears in his eyes as he remembered the tine when he and Mirabel were little, how he used to be called 'big brother' by mirabel just so he would steal arepas for her.
Dolores bowed her head down in shame, maybe if she had kept her mouth shut then Mirabel wouldn't have done this.
Tears welled up in Luisa's eyes as for the first time, she let her emotions out in front of everyone. She should've never told Mirabel about Bruno's tower in the first place. It was her fault.
Abuela looked shook, her hands trembled as she collapsed onto the ground, this time she saw pedro die again and again, he had a sword that went through his chest, despite that he had a smile on his face as he stared into her eyes. He stared at her, disappointed and mouthed "You killed her."
Isabela stared at her palms, tears flowing furiously out of her eyes, she couldn't even bear to look at Mirabel after what she had done. She should have stood up for her, told abuela that she had been telling the truth, but she didn't. She was too afraid, too cowardly, afraid of bearing the same fate as Bruno.
She didn't deserve to be called older sister by Mirabel, she had lost that title.
Mirabel's words when she had brushed past her echoed in her mind
"Today when you showed me your true self I had thought that I got my older sister back. Sadly, you were, are and always will be Señorita perfecta Isabela. Maybe if you told the truth we would still be sisters."
